Messed up situation in Washington State.

I'm amused when somebody remarks that laws aren't unconstitutional until the Court says they are.

I always think, "Yeah, and the sky isn't blue until the Court says it is."

But that's just me... a native English speaker.

Fasten your seat belts for the unintended consequences.

Gun bans don't actually "ban" anything. They just drive it underground.

What we have to date is an orderly gun market. If the gun-banners have their way, we will have a chaotic "black" market in guns. Under these conditions, it will be easier for felons, mass shooters, etc. to get their hands on guns.

How would this even work? A muzzle brake would convert a plain old semi auto into an assault weapon. But it could be installed on anything. So you can't be in possession of a muzzle brake or a rifle with a muzzle brake if you also own a semi-auto rifle?

Seattle here! yes, it’s everything you described

They don’t care about anything logical, just punishing the Washington people who voted for Trump

That's actually technically correct. There's a presumption of constitutionality.

Otherwise, everybody could decide for himself what was valid and what was not. It just doesn't work that way.

^ Of course ! I know all that. I'm just amused because my next thought is about the sky being blue and the corollary that the Court does not recognize the plain English language of the BOR, which was added exactly to prevent misunderstanding or misconstruction of those Rs.

However, I'm waxing political here, and I just meant to be merely amusing in the post you quoted.

Next time, quote all the relevant parts, and thank you.

Well, if you are in possession of a credit card-like piece of thin metal with lines drawn on it the ATF says that card is a machinegun. o_O I guess you hold it in your hand, shake it and say aloud: " rat tat tat tat tat tat tat tat" Somehow that makes bullets magically fly out of it.

One suspects that our legislators actually understand this. These laws have nothing to do with preventing crime, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any politician that truly believes this type of legislation will do away with mass shootings, lower the suicide-by-firearm rate or contribute to dropping the levels of violent crime. It's simply about controlling and disarming the law-abiding citizens. What's been happening in the arena of gun-control legislation is turning a lot of formerly rational gun-owners and RKBA supporters into full-blown conspiracy theorists.

Anyone needing some threaded barrels for pistols? We'll be selling cheap and shipping to other states... A Browning A-Bolt in .308 with a muzzle break? Heck, even the BOSS system is gonna be illegal. Coming soon from the state that considers the Ruger 10/22 an "assault rifle."

If you think Washington State is bad, remember that IL-ANNOY was the LAST state to get concealed carry. The State is still hindering people getting CCLs by making the "requirements" so odious and so expensive that the people who need it the most can't get it.
Gov. "Jabba" (aka "Jelly Belly", "Prickster") signed a law in January basically defying the SC's Bruen decision. There have been multiple cases filed around the state with multiple TROs issued suspending the law yet the state police (ISP) continue to enforce this unconstitutional law, making it extremely difficult for FFLs to run their businesses.
More info about the various cases can be found in various forums at IllinoisCarry.com.

Don’t think it won’t happen in yout Blue or Purple state. We in Washington never thought it would happened either

I think they have described most semi-auto rifles as assault weapons in one form or another. My Mini-14 has none of the things they describe except one....a barrel shroud. That makes it an assault rifle. If I take the barrel shroud off, is it still an assault rifle? If the barrel is threaded, which it isn't, is it still an assault rifle?

I can't think of very many newer rifles that aren't threaded for a can or break. I'm not sure what they're trying for here but I don't think they can prosecute someone for owning a can or MB.

I've read through this new law a few times. My stuff is still legal because it was all purchased years ago legally. I'm not worried about the financial loss when I'm finished using them. I can still have an FFL ship them to an out-of-state buyer if I want. Most everything I've sold was shipped out-of-state anyway.

The problem is the new law will make many dealers just close up shop. My friend who is a dealer just closed his business. He had a booming business here in the last few years because most people, like me, saw this coming and wanted to get in under the wire. Now he can't legally sell rifles so he's done.

The new law isn't going to change anything except make it easier to find a rifle on the black market. Everything out there now will be illegal to sell. That means more break- ins and more stolen weapons. The street price of an AR will double or triple.

25% of adults have concealed carry permits.
Not really that big of a deal with open carry, and now, Constitutional carry, and practically an AR in every trunk. Not to mention, no silly waiting period to buy a pistol. And if they feel they still must, getting the permit is very easy. No courses, or psych tests or whatever.

‘Bama is pretty chill with the gun stuff. Hopefully the “Forrest Gump idiot state stereotype” continues, so people can continue to laugh at Alabama, and don’t come in and ruin it.

Lawlessness is the term used when crime is rampant.

Lawlessness must also be applied when “lower” laws infringe on constitutional rights. Why is it that local Sheriffs sometimes ignore “lower” laws? Should be inspiring to us all.

I’ve been following this guy on You Tube. He is very good and explains everything very clearly.

Washington Gun Law is the channel name. He is a lawyer and is very well versed in gun laws around the country. The vids are usually around 10 minutes and very informative and he talks plainly.

Your not wrong on this. When I sold my house last year in the Portland area and told people I was moving to Alabama everyone thought I had lost my mind. So don’t worry the secret is still safe for now.

The road signs coming into Washington should read "A good place to be from". I would leave here in a heartbeat but the thought of moving is overwhelming.

I told my wife 2-3 months ago, “go find a new job”. it’s not just the anti gun laws here, I feel this is a test bed state for crazy commie laws. It doesn’t get anymore extreme then Seattle! As goes Seattle, as goes Washington.

I hate moving, but I’m not staying

my brother told me he and everyone say the same thing about Arkansas when asked.. He tells them, it’s full of country bunkins and bible thumpers and county hoods with 24’s and glock switches…

+1 for this channel. He is pro-2A, doesn’t fall for panics, and uses facts in his videos.

Florida!!!
Florida doesn’t have a long track record. In the previous gubernatorial election the crackhead came within just a few votes of winning. Let’s see how things are in 10 years. Plus, several other southern states have permitless carry now.

Kentucky is great on guns but our taxes are horrible.

Aside from the issues with gun laws, what's frustrating about this is politicians just throwing poop-laws at the wall to see what sticks...

... And it's our tax dollars picking up the bill for the years of court battles and campaigns and movements and ads and everything that gets wrapped up into politics.

Uncle Sam cuts the check from Mr. And Mrs. America.

This really underscores the importance of the 9th Circuit Court cases against the various CA laws that as grinding their way along.
The 9th encompasses most of the PNW, and will have wide-ranging effect on those States' laws.

Which underscores finding the Rights Organizations supporting those cases, and keeping them funded with donations.

I'll imagine our peers in WA are feeling isolated and alone right now. But, as John Donne points out "...No man is an island..."--so, smugly writing off WA because "I live in a 'free State' " is shortsighted and a tad selfish.

Much the same goings on in this household.

It absolutely is not just the recent, new and pending gun laws here. We have avowed socialists and ex-convicts in our city councils and state legislature now. I will be leaving this state, not solely because its gun laws have turned so tragically repressive, but because one county continues to set policy and enact horrible legislation on the rest of the good citizens of this beautiful state. We all know that in less than ten short years, we've gone from a A-rated state with some of the best gun laws (and lack of) in the country, to the bottom of the pile. But I'm not a single-issue voter. The "progressive" leadership in this state (all hailing from the same major metropolitan population centers) have absolutely ruined so many of the things most of us have always loved about Washington.

Plus, the lack of city, county and state workers (or apathy in this government ruling bodies) has allowed literal trash to pile up alongside every public road, street and highway in what used to be a spectacularly beautiful state.

Pretty sure I'm not the only one here whose heart is broken because of what's been going on in this state, especially Western Washington, over the past several years.

To my friends in states that are slowly turning blue -- looking at you, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Wisconsin, Nevada, (Pennsylvania?), one word: Hubris. We never thought it would happen here, either... The other side is playing the long game, and the field they're on is the state battlegrounds. Just take a look at pending gun control legislation brewing in some other states now.
