Michigan epitomizes America's gun-loving culture

And they say don't mess with Texas. My understanding is that on opening day of deer season we in Michigan have the world's fifth or sixth largest standing army. We are the first line of defense against the Canadians. Can you imagine having to sing "Oh Canada"

I would be willing to bet that the higher homicide rate is mostly from detroit

Yeah Wayne county has 2/3rd's of the states homicides and only 1/4 of the population. It's the least gun friendly portion of the state.

but can they invade with no guns and no army ...lol

Don't underestimate the power of snowballs and LaBatts.

Dont get me counted on the crap they pull to buy handguns in wayne county ..LaBatts and invading as a Hockey team could probley do it

Yeah, in Wayne county you must first produce 2 "good character" letters from friends or aquaintences stating that you are not going to go berserk after you get your CPL. This was NOT part of the law. It was just that idiot McNamara getting in the way as always. The MCRGO was taking Wayne CTY to court over that. Don't know what ever became of it, but no difference, they accomplished what they set out to do. They SCREWED with every law-abiding CPL applicant. Wayne county SUCKS!

P.S. I had always gotten the impression that the U.P. was pretty gun friendly. Isn't that where there is an NRA "A rated" congresscritter who is even a Democrat?

That wouldn't bother me as much as having to eat their "******" (vinegar and salt) potato chips.

You just haven't had the right ones, Strange1.

Being a Canadian who lives in Oakland County, I do have to say that I don't see gun culture in the GDA area unlike out at my cottage which is in Oceana county. I can't carry to work. I can't carry out to dinner. I can't carry to the bank. I can't carry to the Post Office. Heck the few times I carry is when I run into Detroit to pick something up, go shopping at the mall with the wife or go to the convenience store....

Up at the cottage a couple of times I've forgotten I was open carrying (doing some chores, cleaning up after wind storms, etc...), run into town with a sidearm strapped on, got gas, a bite to eat, NO ONE BLINKS TWICE.

No one cares the further north of Detroit you get.

*Edited to remove remarks which could be considered inflamatory and an error I made in listing places I did carry.

:p

Now the Ketchup ones, those I can take.
BTW, I was raised in Kingston. Mom moved back to the states when POS dad cheated on her.

I agree with you though. My step-dad has a place in Autrain, no problems up there. My youngest is going to Superior state, no big deal up there at all.

Where is this from? Does anyone have the source?

it's an editorial from a Canadian Newspaper, can't remember which one and I've all ready deleted my orginal source, sorry, JC :uhoh:

Canada epitomizes thumb sucking culture?

Too bad for them that we Michiganders don't see evil in every inanimate object. Cry baby letters printed in their communist instruments of propaganda are wasted ink. Foreigners have zero influence on our laws (which are plenty strict as far as I am concerned).

All the Canadians I have taught to shoot here were greatly relieved at how safe and fun firearms really are in actual use. They've been indoctrinated into their opinions by watching cops and robbers shows on TV and have never even touched a real gun.

They are eager learners but it is hard to teach the older dogs new tricks. Can they be blamed for being brainwashed? Hard to say since I know I hold myself accountable to such susceptibility.

How about a THR Michigan Shoot?

I was thinking that other states have a nice THR range shoot. I was wondering if anyone is interested in getting together to have a shoot in Michigan? The best place for this, I think, is in the Lansing area, but will take sugguestions. Maybe some time in the spring when all this darn snow is gone and it is above freezing?

Lansing is only about a three hour round trip for me and I would really like to do some social shooting for a change but I can't unless it's an evening shoot. Daylight is past my bedtime. I'm expecting a somewhat more normal schedule this Summer.

Did they say the gun bug was in grand rapids? I live there and have never heard of it. Actually I now live about 45 min north of GR. michigan is pretty gun friendly except the handgun registration or i mean safety check. When i took my handgun in to be inspected for safety it was done by a secretary at the front desk. When i handed her the gun the slide was closed and an empty mag was in it. She grabbed it and layed it on her desk with the barrel facing her chest while she wrote down the serial number. Never checked to see if it was loaded or anything. And that was there whole "safety check"

I've got another funny Michigan "safety check."

My dad took in an old S&W revolver that he'd found in pristine condition, to be "checked." The lady at the counter looked it over, and looked it over, and looked it over some more. She then called back into the office for a uniformed officer's assistance (never did get it clear if she was a uniform or not). As the other officer was coming over, she told dad that he wouldn't be able to register it, as the serial number had been removed. The unspoken word being "confiscated."

The frustrating part is that dad couldn't yell at the fool - he'd lost his voice box to cancer years before. And it took him several minutes of scribbling notes to make sure they knew to check under the grips on the butt of the handle for the number.

All turned out well, after he unscrewed the grips.

Being from MI, Detroit is really no longer the problem where murder is concerned, it is the Flint area that has everyone scared. I grew up in MI and there are many places that one can shoot in peace and quiet without bothering anyone, bit the idea of someone shooting jugs in the air scares even me. I don't care how much area you have around you, accidents can still happen. Example: Fort Redeverous (a shooting range) in Manistee County. The local State Police post decided to do some trap shooting with their issued shotguns and 00 Buckshot. Some of the pellets were landing on roofs and breaking windows in the nearby (1-2.5 Miles) village. The range had to shut down and redo the range facing the other direction. So no one can tell me it is safe to just shoot into the air.
