Here is the comment I sent to Customer Service AND letter I sent to Mr Potterfield.
How is it I had a backorder for a case, 5000 rounds of CCI MINI MAGS for 12 months. During that time the product was offered limit 500 'in stock' three times. Yesterday I get a 'backorder cancelled' notice but clicked on the 'notify me' link and TODAY I get a 'in stock' notice limit 10 (1000 rounds), but was 'sold out' by time I saw my email at lunch. Makes you wonder what the...?

We'll see what they answer. At this point I had a new scope in the 'Shopping Cart' but won't be ordering from them.

Updates to follow...

I'm sorry for what happened to you.

My brother and I each backordered 5000 CCI Minimags and 4000 American Eagle .22lr. So a total of 18,000 lr between the both of us from MidwayUSA around October 2013 and we both received our shipments before November of 2014.

I hope and think that they will make it right, but we'll see. I've always had good service from MidwayUSA.
That's strange keep us in the loop on what happens.

I had that happen with another vendor. I was told thier system placed orders on hold if the order exceeded the maximum/limit. In my case, my back order exceeded the limit so it wasn't filled. I hate it when computers do what they are told instead of thinking out side of their little box.

Ya, but the three times they came in stock I called and was told by a live person they didn't receive any cases just 100rd boxes. Must have came in paper bags then, LOL.

Funny, same thing happened to me yesterday.
I've already had two conversations with Midway Customer Service. And fired off an email to Potterfield this morning.

Midway must have the same VP of Integrity as Cheaper Than Dirt.:D

It's been my experience that Midway needs a new IT staff.
The folks who work there and run it are just fine.
Especially now that they have made less expensive shipping arrangements.
It's their computer system that needs help.

Yup - cancelled my backorders for 22LR based on 'product unavailability'.

And fired off an email to Potterfield this morning.
I'd love to send him a message - care to share his email?

His emai is [email protected]

I just received another 'in stock' notice and was able to order 1000rds with $16.99 shipping. Original case order had FREE SHIPPING. We'll see what that say. With summer leagues coming up I figured I'd better take the. 1000 rounds.

Yesterday they cancelled my order from 12/16/13 for a case. Several times in the past 14 months "customer service" assured me that the back order would be honored. Today I received the same "in stock" notice that is mentioned above. I think the statement above about Midway having the Cheaper Than Dirt attitude is correct.

I agree that it is their IT dept that needs improvement. Order a case, better hope they get in some cases. Customer service is great.

It is definitely frustrating for those waiting on back orders. When the billions of rounds back ordered by everyone finally get sent out, things will get back to normal.

The amount of .22 that is back ordered is insane. Some of this is self inflicted. :)

I bet the 1000rd cases and 100rd boxes have differerent SKU's

So product 12345 is listed as on backorder for you and everyone else.
But 12346 comes in and is nothing less than 1/2 of the item you wanted but the computer doesn't know that 12346 + 12346 = 12345.

That might also explain the difference in price. Walk into 7-11 and by 12 cans of soda, then buy a 12PACK of the same brand. I bet the 12pk is cheaper, even though its essentially "the same thing". Buy two 6 packs. It will be more than the 12pk but less than the 12 singles.

No the difference in price is an increase. My original order was item 12345 x 50 for a full case per product listing. You could order 100, 500, 1600 or 5000 just by changing quantity in the cart (100 x ?). The old price was $6.05/100 the new price is $6.99/100.

Here is an interesting post from over at rimfire central . com after the poster spoke to Midway

Same here. I just got off the phone with the manager...named Eric. Let me just say...I would not want his job. I was told that their system is randomly filling backorders and cancelling others.

Mine was cancelled. After I received an email 2 days ago telling me my backorder was still valid.

Seems as though some are being filled and others are not.

I spoke with Eric for 43 minutes and 16 seconds. Not much they can or will do and my backorder for 5000 mini mag solids remains cancelled.

Just gonna say...Cabelas has been fillling my orders as they have offered. So I guess they are going to be my go to retailer.

browningguy Sorry the world doesn't work right for you. But I will say comparing Midway to CTD is just a plain old ignorant statement.

Being that the definition of ignorant is "lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular.".....I would say you're wrong.

I've bought plenty from both, so I'm not just making a random comparison.
CTD has ALWAYS delivered on backordered items and didn't raise the price from the day I ordered.
Contrast that with Midway canceling orders as soon as new product comes into inventory, then raises the price AND TAKES NEW ORDERS AT THE HIGHER PRICE.

If you think this is ethical keep shopping at Midway. I think it unethical and lacking in integrity.

I received this from member rbernie who received the following from Midway:

Received a reply from MidwayUSA maybe worth posting:

"Thanks for taking the time out of your day to contact us. As you might imagine, since we cancelled thousands of unfillable backorders for 22 Long Rifle Ammunition in the last few weeks, Larry has received a dramatic increase in email volume and can’t possibly answer each one so he has enlisted my help to respond to customers. I assure you, this decision was not taken lightly. We knew that it would be wildly unpopular with our customers who had been waiting a year for product, but regrettably when this ammunition run first began we were caught flat footed. Before we realized the gravity of the situation, we had taken far more backorders than our allocations from the manufacturers would allow us to fill in a reasonable time frame. We stopped taking backorders, but kept the existing ones on the books (without payment from customers, of course) to see if the situation would improve. As you well know, it has not. As a result, we have decided to cancel all backorders per our policy once they become a year old because it became evident that old backorders were not going to be fulfilled in any reasonable or predictable time. It is important for MidwayUSA to respect the resources of its Customers and Stakeholders and not keep obligations in place beyond a timeframe that is reasonable. We are very sorry for this, and our inability to get enough product to satisfy our customers demand. Larry agonized over this decision, but we didn’t see any other course of action based on the current supply compared to the demand for 22 Long Rifle. I regret that we can’t offer any alternatives, but that is because there is no 22 to offer in anywhere near the amount of backorders we have outstanding. Everyone is being treated the same way on this one, which is why no exceptions are being made. As a lifelong shooter, I certainly understand your position. When we first ran out of 22’s Larry suspended the employee purchase program and cancelled our backorders because customers come first. At the time, I thought it was temporary. We could see the light at the end of the tunnel…now my friend, I don’t see that light. I think it will be years before the industry can catch up because everyone is buying all the 22 they can whenever they can. If everyone would just take a breath and only buy what they need to shoot that month, the industry would catch up. But as soon as you tell someone they can’t have something, they have to have it. Guys that maybe fired 500 rounds a summer are sitting on 10,000 rounds and still buying whenever they see it. Until the demand settles, this crazy supply situation will continue. I am sorry we can’t meet the orders. Believe me, if we had a way out other than this we would have taken it. I have worked for Larry for 19 years, and actually was a customer at the old gunshop that evolved into MidwayUSA before that. This is the first time I have felt we have failed our customers. And believe me, I don’t like it. It won’t happen again. We will never again get caught that flat footed and take that many backorders on a product without realistically evaluating how much product we will be able to obtain.

On behalf of Larry, we are truly sorry for this,
