What is the value of the 3 inch Model 19 S&W guns in 98% and when were they produced ?

3" 19's don't last long in the shops around here. $450 to $550, depending on grips, does it have box and papers? All that well add to the value. A search on Gunbroker well show nation wide prices.

The Standard Catalog of S&W states that three inch barrels are rare, with first production thought to be serial number K544682 in 1965.

The S&W Performance Center produced a small run of compensated three inch barrel K Comp model 19s in 1994.

Seriously? I'll need to make a road trip, then. 3" k-frames with adjustable sights are rare - I'd expect one of these to go for around twice this. With original grips, box, and in excellent condition, even a bit more, IMO.

The last, TRUE 3" barreled 19, not a cut down or re-barrel, that I saw at auction, brought $950 without box or docs.

In 98% condition, with box and docs, I'd say $1050 to $1300.

I'd love to find one. The 3" 19 is my grail gun. Got any pics?

Hen's teeth...

The three inch model 19 is quite rare, and I have only seen a couple of photos of them. I can believe they would sell for $1000 or so among collectors. I'd love to find somebody who had an unfired one sitting in their sock drawer for 30 years and who wanted to sell it quickly for $500. It would go nicely with my 3 inch model 66, the stainless version of the model 19.

I have a S&W Model 19 (1972) that as best we can tell has never been fired (except factory firing which I have been told they were fired every other round). The only downside is that I do not have the box for it but it has no bluing wear or anything so I can't bring myself to shoot it.

I would love to pick up a 66 to be my 'shooter'.

When you say 3", do you mean true 3" or the more standard 2.75"?

My partner picked a pretty 2.75" P&R 19-3 up for about $380 recently. Nasty Hogue rubbers on it, but otherwise in good condition.
Looking for (or for to make) grips to do it justice.

3 " 66

There are very few REAL 3" 66s out there , but a lot of re-barreled guns that aren't factory. Most people after a fruitless search for the real thing just buy a model 65 in a three inch that was a popular FBI gun. .

2.5 inch is most common barrel length

Daizee asked:

I think the standard snubby length for the models 19 and 66 is 2.5 inches. The 3 inch versions are half an inch longer. Here is a picture of my 3 inch model 66 together with three of the 2.5 inch guns, two model 19s and a model 66. You can see the difference in barrel lengths.

Oh yeah, that's totally obvious in the picture.
You must be right - I'm sure it's a 2.5". I was getting the barrel length crossed with the older Ruger Six serious guns that had a 2.75" tube.

The 3"-ers have really nice proportions.
