Mosin Nagant markings

Its been speculated that the diamond is just a refurbishment mark, but there's no definite answer. Many Mosin Nagant markings will probably go undeciphered.

Pics would help.

If the refurrbishment was made in Russia/Ukraine then the mark on the buttstock will most likely be a [/] , a diagonal slash in a box. the same arsenals marked the barrel'd action with a [l] vertical line dividing a square to indicate refurbishment.
Electro penciling and black paint touch ups , as well as shellack onthe stock indicate Soviet refurred and stored, often with a minimum of work, some are total rehauls, counter bored and all....

Romainia also refurbished Mosin's of all kinds after the war as well, but there is no 'Romainian referrb" markings, per say, to indicate such, but the nubmers will be neatly matching on all replacement parts , but without crylic prefixes, only numbers. The serial numbers will be 'rack readable" as in stamped across the buttstock if the rifle is racked verticly, while Soviet numbers on a stock run horizontally, readable when when held to fire.
Also, Romainian referrbs are oil finished , not shellacked.
I have an SA marked M-44 that was, evidently, re-captured by the Soviets and Romainian referrbed with some of the peticulars I noted above. It originly came with a Finn sling and hangers, and threw me off untill I asked alotta questions at a different boards and got it figured.....someone simply threw on a finn sling and together with the box'd SA I couldnt see anything but a Finn M-44....took of the sling and the 'Re-capture' with Romainian referrb, and became evident in itsself where it had been. Markings are hard enough, dont let accessories fool ya , either.~~LOL!!~~

Pictures would really help with the question asked...

Most all the Soviet block countrys used teh Mosin to some extent , and all had inhouse repair and refurrb, so certain countrys imported MosinNagants at certain times and if theres an importers mark on, that too can show evidence where a rifle may have originated from.

Mosin Markings are always interesting, but not always deciferable. hope we find out all of them , someday :D
