List the most reliable autoloaders you have personally used. List model and number of rounds used through it. A few jams are ok but compared to the other guns you have used and owned which ones stand out from the crowd.

Mine:

Glock 17 >300 rounds
HK USP 45 250 rounds
Kimber TLE 45 100 rounds

Zero Jams among all of them..........granted thats really not a lot of rounds

No malfunctions:

USP40 - tens of thousands of rounds.
USP9 - about 15,000 rounds.
USP45 - about 15,000 rounds.
Colt NRM GM - approximately 2,000 rounds.
Kahr PM9 - probably 1000 rounds.
Colt Mustang Pocketlite - 600 or so rounds.

I've seen a LOT of rounds go downrange, and I'd estimate the Glock 17 is as good as anything. The 20, 21 and 19 don't seem to work quite as well overall.

SIGs are right up there, too - when you keep the springs fresh.

Beretta's are boringly reliable, too.

CZ's are good with hot ammo, but can be problematic with lighter stuff.

So far the only weapons I've owned with exactly 0 malfunctions were....

2 Sig 229s
2 Sig 228s
1 XD Subcompact 9mm
1 XD Service 9
2 Glock 17s
1 CZ75B 9mm
1 CZ P01
1 CZ75B .40
and some revolvers, Taurus, S&W and Ruger.

I have had problems from:

Glock 22 .40 (Ammo sensitive)
CZ PCR 9mm (just broke. CZ replaced it)
Sig 226 9mm (Rattled)
Sig 226 .40 (Jammed every 3rd shot, myself, several experienced shooters and 2 smiths couldn't salvage this one)
Taurus 945 .45 (Break in period)

There have been others, not worth mentioning.
Beretta 92fs (Bad Mags)

Zero malfunctions with Beretta 92FS and Glock 19. Also, since Kel-Tec did a bit of work on it, my P32 has been 100%. An occasional jam may be O.K. for a range gun, but NOT for a defense piece.

Chuck

Let me get my numbers, here...

My Browning Hi Power MkIII has 2,322 rounds through it without a malfuction.

I don't keep records on rounds fired, but my USP40 is the most reliable gun I have. It's unreal. Many thousands of rounds and I think I've two malfs total, both of which were very obviously big-time ammo related.

I've don't think I've ever even seen a gun that has really been used and never malfunctioned, while it may be magazine or ammo related or due to extremely poor maintenance or dropping mags in the wet sand and not clearing them out before stuffing them back in the gun (something the USP doesn't seem to mind all that much) or what have you, they all fail to fire are some point at least once.

H&K USP9: 3500 rounds total, Max without cleaning 1500, only malfunctions were because it was my first handgun and I limp writed it occasionaly in the first 400 rounds or so. At 1500 rounds I had to clean it because it was so dirty handling it became very unpleasant.

MRI baby eagle: 5000 rounds total. Problems for the first 1000 rounds until I found a metal shaving causing issues in the firing pin channel which was causing light strikes. Can go about 1000 rounds between cleanings before dirt starts causing failure to feed issues intermittantly

Springfield Armory TRP operator: ~6500 rounds. went about 2800 rounds before the extractor failed. spent about 1000 rounds getting new extractor set up and messing around with spring weights. goes about 1200 rounds before the extractor channel needs cleaning, otherwise when manually laoding a round it fails to go fully into battery without a tap on the back about one in 5 times. When a live round cycles the slide no issues. Gets cleaned about every 1000 rounds because that's when it becomes excessiely nasty to handle.

Essentially, after shooting competitively for a while, I'd say any decent handgun can be made to be reliable with appropriate maintenance. Most everything will digest 1000 rounds before cleaning if you prep it properly, and EVERYTHING breaks if you do not maintain it properly. The main difference between guns is what is a wear item and what is not. (i.e. cz-75b shouldn't expect the slide stop to last more than 5000 rounds or so. 1911 should have a spare extractor on hand. glocks need to make sure which mags and followers work best, and keep some spares of the right revision of followers, every brand has some leeway in their replacement interval for springs, but don't rely on more than about a 20% grace period.)

So far I would have to say my most reliable semi auto is my Sig 229. I have the 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 9mm bbl for it and I've probably put more then 10K rounds through it using the different caliber ammo. Can't beat that.

I also haven't had any problems with the following auto's I have even though the round count is low

Glock 22 - 500rnds
Glock 21 - 200rnds
S&W 1911 - 600rnds

I've been real lucky in the auto's I've bought. Just picked up a Sig 220ST. Hoping it will run as good as the 229.

Glock 21: 0 Jams, 12,000 rounds (Everything on the gun is original)
Glock 19: 0 Jams, 2000 rounds
Glock 17: 1 Jam (Bad after-market mag now in a landfill) 7000 rounds
Taurus PT99: 0 Jams 3000 rounds

CZ PO1 - two bullets stuck in bore from bad reloads...mine....oops.... :banghead: Perfectly reliable, hot and light loads.
CZ RAMI, also perfectly reliable with all ammo.

Zero malfunctions out of the following pistols.

Glock 17
Glock 23
Glock 32
CZ-75B
CZ-75 Compact
CZ-75D PCR
CZ-75 P-01
CZ-83
FEG 380
Bulgarian Makarov
SIG P228

It is hard to put them in any kind of order, a zero malf gun may have only had 2K rounds, while another may have a malf or two but 2-4Xs the rounds. So, in no particular order, here are what I consider my best (reliability only) auto experiences-

-Bersa Thunder .380- it had two or three glitches in the first 70 rounds during the break-in period, however it hasn't malf since. I never kept a count on this, I'd guess I'm between 500-700 rounds.

-CZ 40. I think I had one or two malf with it during break-in, but I don't remember for sure. I had a couple thousand rounds through it when I sold it. For its performance since, ask Spot77.

-CZ 75B. I stopped counting around 5K rounds, I'd guess I'm around 10K now. Maybe 5 or 6 malf.

-Charles Daly 1911. I stopped counting around 5K rounds. I'm somewhere between 5-10K, but I have no idea exactly where. I've had maybe a dozen malf that weren't mag related (most were when I needed to replace the springs).

-Kimber 1911. Not mine, my best friend's so I don't know exactly how good it has been (he's had a few malf, but not many) or how many rounds (many) but I do know that it has never malf in the 500+ rounds I shot through it, or more than once or twice in the thousands that my friend shot while I was there.

-CZ 85 Combat. My best friend's CZ has been a great gun. I don't remember if he had any malf or not (I think he's had a couple), but he has thousands upon thousands of rounds through it, and he has played with it a lot (home gunsmithing) so if it has any they were well earned.

-Kahr MK9. I won't say my best friend's MK9 has never had a malf since I don't know for sure, but it hasn't had one that I know of. He's shot around 1K rounds through it with me there, and I've shot a couple hundred.

-Ruger P89. I had it for about 2000 rounds and never had a malf (I didn't like it for other reasons).

-Ruger P90. I think my friend's Ruger P90 may have had one or two malf, but none while I was shooting with the gun or at the range with my friend shooting it.

I trust autos to be reliable (see above list), but only one of my guns never had a bobble, and only 2 of my buddies' guns didn't have one that I knew for sure about (though they may have had one or two). However, I've owned quite a few revolvers, I've shot probably close to 10K out of one that is now spitting a little (S&W 65LS), I've shot thousands of rounds out of others, and I can't think of any malf I ever had with a revolver (other than blackpowder where I once had some of the caps slip off the nipple with my Colt 1860 Army replica).

The only bad experience I've ever had was this:

One that was super accurate, but had to be kept extremely clean
in order to function was a NIB Ruger MK-II KMK-512; or otherwise
it could become a jam-o-matic.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

And two that haven't had a chance to pass MY reliability test are the:

Seecamp LWS-32 .32 ACP
Kimber Raptor II

Simply cuz I haven't had the time to get 'em to the range! :(

Fact is almost all new semi-autos in the $400.00 and up price range are excellent.

Gun business is super competetive now and if you want to stay in the game for the long haul you have to produce a quality product.

Bulgarian Makarov circa 1982: 1500 rounds with zero malfunctions (so I traded it for some reloading equipment  ).

CZ75 compact 9mm circa 2003: about 3000 rounds with only two malfunctions (it was with an aftermarket 40 caliber mag  that has since been relegated to snap-cap duty). Strangely enough, when I use my .22 lr Kadet Konversion Kit on my CZ, I get failures regularly :( ).

Colt NRM 1911 I got last year: jury still out, but looks good so far with zero malfunctions in about 500 rounds.

The "only" pistol that I have shot a "considerable" amount of ammo thru and have had zero malfunctions with is my Beretta 92fs. It isn't my favorite pistol but I have owned it since 1987, shoot it frequently and have never had a failure.

Bersa Thunder .380 - >400 rounds with 0 problems - excellent little gun for $199 NIB.

Zero FTF:

HK USP .45 f

Taurus 99

Mk II (only CCI Stingers jammed, but those are technically a different round than a standard .22LR)

Bersa Thunder .380: 500+ rds no problems.

Davis .380: at least 500 rds over 8 years no problems.

Bulgarian Makarov 1972 model: Several thousand rounds no problems.

Ruger P89: 2000+ rounds no problems.

Ruger 22/45: After 500rd breakin no problems.

Problem Guns

Walther PPK/S: Ammo sensitive with certain JHP's.

Springfield Armory 1911: Ammo sensitive with JHP loads.

Kel Tec P40: Junk

Kel Tec P11: Ammo sensitive with JHP's, FMJ only gun.

Beretta 92: Always had magazine related issues after 500 or so rounds in ever mag purchased regardless of manufacturer.

My Sig P228 and SW1911 have been 100% reliable; my CZ 75B .40 has been so since I had it worked on.
