Hello everyone!
Well, I recently bought a PTR-91 GI model from Bud's Gun Shop new in box for a great price. If you aren't aware, this is a Heckler & Koch pattern rifle based off the G3 battle rifle. This particular version comes with green furniture pulled off original H&K G3s from German military service. Germany used the G3 from 1959-1995 as the standard infantry rifle, and still use it today to supplement the G36 in a designated marksman role.
The PTR-91 GIs come with a "navy" style polymer lower, and while this is fine, I wanted more of a G3A3 service rifle looks so bought an H&K G3 lower from a forum member here and fitted to my rifle. It now has the looks of a real rough-and-ready German H&K G3A3 battle rifle!!! I just got done shooting it for the first time, and I must say, this has got to be one of the coolest rifles I've ever owned. Very accurate, manageable recoil even with the hard-hitting 7.62x51mm cartridges, and the gun fired without a hitch. I put a total of 80 147 grain NATO rounds through it.
Well, here is a picture of my rifle:
How cool is that?? I can't wait to get it back out on the range. I plan to put either an H&K G3 original style leather sling on it, or an H&K three-point web sling, haven't decided yet and any inputs would be appreciated. I also need to get a whole mess of magazines for this baby, doesn't hurt that surplus mags in great shape can be had for less than $4.00! Oh, and I'll also be needing some more AMMO because this gun is simply to fun not to shoot it on the regular!
Thanks so much for reading my little mini review guys. I love my new "G3A3" and look forward to more shooting with it in the very near future!
Have a safe and fun 4th of July weekend!
