Hello all!!
Well, my PTR-91 project is done. Here it is:
I bought a basic PTR-91 GI model a couple or three months ago, and after some decision making I set out to turn it into a bonafide H&K G3A3 copy. Here is what I did:
1. Changed standard H&K green slimline handguard to the wide-style H&K handguard.
2. Swapped factory dust cover to an H&K parkerized bayonet adapter.
3. Changed factory polymer "navy" style lower for a parkerized "clipped & pinned" legal G3 lower, with green pistol grip to match the rifle.
4. Had a paddle magazine release professionally installed by gunsmith Bill Springfield.
5. Attached an H&K 3-point tactical sling.
Lastly, I shot the gun multiple times and fixed a couple minor teething issues (most with the magazine release) and the gun now runs 100%, and has digested all ammo I've fed in it. It really like the inexpensive ZQI 7.62x51mm brass cased ammo from Wal-Mart. I've been firing this gun at my local 25 yard indoor range, this gun easily manages nickel-sized groups at that range shooting from a rest. I need to stretch this gun out soon though, there is a 300 yard rifle range nearby and I'm going to have to do some shooting there!
I also want to do some run and gun style shooting, I bought this gun as my MBR (main battle rifle) and it is not something I want to just go out and shoot under controlled situations. Instead, I really want to put it through it's paces out in the field, just how a real G3 would be used!
So far, I am truly loving this gun. It is beautiful, reliable, rugged, and has been one of my dream guns for many years now. I'm so glad I finally got this project done. Now all I need is a nice chest rig to hold spare magazines so I will really be ready for battle!
Thanks for looking guys, tell me what you think!!
