After a year of looking , not wanting to pay more than I wanted to pay and himming and hawing I finally bought my first new Colt. Ive bought Colts before but never a new one. To be honest I would have preferred a Nickel gun and if Colt ever gets completely out of bankruptcy and starts producing guns again I'll pick one up. What pushed me over the edge now was the cost of ivory going up and up and no limit in sight. Great investment opportunity BTW ( Ivory that is ) . So ...Here she is. 4 3/4" Colt 45LC SAA smooth ivory fitted one piece grips original black rubber grips in the box....at more than I wanted to pay :)!

All told about $3K. The grips about $900 of it. Could have got two piece for less but those one piece sure are pretty. With Colt basically out of production or at least barely producing the market is what the market is. I hear a tale of a caliber I don't want or some such for a few hundred less than I paid for that one but when I go to see it or call on it its always gone.

I can see why that is more than you like to pay but you will forget the price years from now when you have this gem and are still admiring it

Guess you could say if you keep it 20 years, that's only 41 cents a day... :)

I sent my .45LC back to the Colt Custom Shop in 2000 and had it fitted with a .45ACP cylinder. It has more than paid for itself on the range. It's the best upgrade I have done to mine.

I have several sets of pre-ban elephant ivory and they ARE the classic grip. I just had a set of Walrus Ivory grips made for my SAA and posted pics. They came in at $300.

I'm sure that explanation of the math will make my wife happy :). no honey...Ive had that for years.

Ive got a dozen ish guns in .45 Colt already and am heavily invested in reloading for that caliber.

I saw your Ivory posts . Looks nice. Almost makes me want to go mug a few walrus's.

Congrats on your new Colt SAA! Absolutely beautiful! Well worth the money and the wait!

Enjoy looking at it.

My first and only Colt 45 Colt had oversize chambers that would throw the bullets all over the target. Mike Venturino has wrote about this problem in his magazine articles. I returned the gun to Colt and they refused to replace the cylinder with one with smaller chamber saying the gun was within spec and is a not meant to be shot. (Read your owners manual and it probably says it should not be shot but enjoyed for it' s beauty).

Beautiful gun that I would keep unfired in a nice wood gun case.

Sweet gun!

I have guns I bought for $100 and overpaid. I have guns I bought for $2k and never even think about the cost.

I saw a SAA on Gunbroker for $20k+ a few days ago. I once held a Colt at a dealer that was listed at over $40k. I guess Custer must have used them.

Anything made by human hands will eventually turn out a few that are not the norm. Considering the numbers of SAAs that have been produced and "used" over the years and saying that all of them fall into a defective category or that they should not be shot is about as realistic as buying a new truck only to wax it and never drive. If that was the norm they would have gone out of production long ago.

Over the years I have owned no less than 12 Colt Single Actions and most are still in my collection. All of them are shooters. My favorite range gun is a 1966 manufacture SAA. I have owned and shot this gun on a regular basis for over 30 years. The main thing I have done to mine is to replace the springs with the Wolff upgrades. And that was on an as needed basis.

This will be a shooter. I don't have space in the safe for wall hangers.

With Colt basically out of production...
Misinformation, stop spreading it.

With the looming ban, I don't see ivory going up at all. New one-piece ivory is still $550 from Nutmeg. Just as it was over a year ago. I've only got $700 invested in the Bisley grips I have on the way and those take a bigger slab. You paid a hefty premium on that gun.

I wouldnt have to pay a premium for anything if Colt was still making guns. None , as in zero, of their distributors have them in stock or have any idea if they might be getting them. Its called bankruptcy. That is of course my opinion based on the 30 or so vendors and distributors I actually talked to , none of them having any idea if they might ever see another Colt SAA again through normal channels. Street price these days for a new in box late 3rd gen P series is $1900 to much higher. 6 months ago it was $1600 .357's a little cheaper but not by much. MAYBE Colt will come out of bankruptcy again and start producing SAA's on a normal basis. They seem to be trying to flood the market with 1911's which is a good thing. Maybe they don't start producing SAA's on a regular basis. I'd love to buy nickel 45's at $1400 MSRP but until they normalize operations, hire back the people they laid off and start building guns SAA's again as a regular catalog item I don't see it changing. Maybe none of that happens and they do what USFA did and close up shop. Then their base models start selling for 4X what they did before. I do know that there isnt a dealer within 400 miles of me that has one on the shelf and then its still in the $1900 plus range..

Ivory will always have a market licit or illicit.

You're just going to keep up this BS indefinitely, aren't you?

Colt is out of bankruptcy, Colt never stopped producing guns during the bankruptcy (including the Peacemaker), Colt has been producing Peacemakers at "normal" levels continuously, the bankruptcy had no effect on Colt production, you've been given this info that came from Colt management, and yet you persist in making your erroneous statements that only make you look like what you are, which is apparently more of a troll than a legitimate poster.

Colt has been & continues to produce the Peacemaker, along with all of their other product line.

It's done by one man on the production floor, which would give any reasonably intelligent reader here the idea that it is simply a LOW PRODUCTION MODEL.

The Custom Shop handles custom Peacemaker orders.
You've been told that shop has been increasing its number of employees, not "almost shuttered" as you claimed elsewhere, and I gave you that info direct from the CS manager.
There were no layoffs during the bankruptcy that affected the Model P in the slightest.

You make nonsensical assertions based only on the fact that you can't find a LOW PRODUCTION GUN anywhere.
You refuse to listen to real facts.

What's your point in continually making yourself look like a troll?

Im not making myself look like a troll. I'm not a Colt fanboy either . Colt has a huge list of catalogued items that they don't actually make and sell. Theres like at least 20 P-series regular production models. You can believe a Colt spokesman/factory guy if you like but when I can't actually buy a regularly catalogued item off the shelf...which I can't... then I'm going to draw the same conclusion Ive been drawing. That is that the company went bankrupt, has emerged from chapter 11 and is not up to full production or even close to it on one of their most popular product lines. Their primary competitor in the classic style US Made SAA market went out of business. They could easily dominate the market at this point yet are not making significant inroads into developing the market. There are none available to buy that weren't on the market 6+ months ago. That is a fact. How can you not recognize that?

A company saying that they increasing their employee ranks tells me that they didnt have enough employees and still dont have enough employees for a reason. They let their people go because they went bankrupt.. It could take years to turn this around and right now the company is especially vulnerable.

You are seriously separated from reality & it's quite obvious you're not the slightest bit interested in re-joining.

Three years ago, when I talked to Brent, head of the Colt Custom Shop, at the SHOT Show in Vegas, he told me he had two bodies under him, and Brent doesn't do the work himself.

Figure the math & how that might affect Custom Shop output.
Special-order guns through that shop have been backlogged for years.

He told me he'd just been given approval to expand the CS to 10 bodies, spread out, which he's been doing.
I told you elsewhere how many he now has & is hoping to fill two more positions this month.

You continue to spout your uninformed drivel about that Shop & reject info direct FROM that Shop.

I told you elsewhere & here that regular production floor Peacemakers are built by one man.

Again, you should be able to figure out how that can & does affect output.
This is nothing new & has nothing to do with the bankruptcy.

Model P production has been low for decades, it is not a money-maker for Colt & the company keeps it on as an icon, not a profit-leader, preferring to put limited resources into other areas of greater return for the company.

The fact that you can't find one only proves zero production in your own mind.
They've been hard to find for years.
Absolutely nothing new there.

Colt let nobody go because of the bankruptcy, production & business continued as usual.
Colt's been cash-strapped for decades, which has affected their ability to expand, but has not shrunk production as such.

The high-priced and antiquated Peacemaker is also not "one of their most popular product lines".
It has been produced in low numbers for several years & the bankruptcy has neither hindered nor helped that.

Your perception of Colt could not be more wrong, and your continual nonsense about layoffs, discontinued production, "all but shuttered", "when they resume production at normal levels", and so on, is just plain BS.

Can I buy a new Colt SAA on the shelf? Not at any dealer I have been able to find.

Can I buy a new Colt SAA buy calling my dealer and asking him to order me one in? ALL of the dealers i have spoken to ...ALL OF THEM... tell me the same thing. They can't get one.

Can I buy a new Colt SAA buy calling Colt directly and having one sent to a distributor/dealer? No, I cant. I get referred to their distributors who you guessed it. Don't have any and cant get any.

Your'e the one being confrontational here. I'm just reporting my experience over the last year trying to purchase a new 4 3/4" Nickel SAA in 45 Colt. New in Box Nickel 45's are selling in the mid $2000 range for an item that MSRP's at $1400 IF you can find them.

Tell me how and where I can buy a new P series Colt production SAA. None of their distributors that used to market their guns can. I'd love to find out the secret handshake regimen.

I would have held of on buying one had a thought Colt was going to turn around but to be honest with you the real reason was my state just did what I have been fearing for a while and put a complete ban on transfer of even ancient ivory. I'm going to have to drive 2 hours to pick my grips up in another state and waiting isnt going to be something that would do me any good to save a few hundred bucks.

See above.
You can carry on all you want to, doesn't affect reality at Colt.

I've not denied you can't find one.
High demand, low production.

Live with the one you found & stop disseminating bad info.

Continually reporting outright lies and falsehoods certainly does not make you look good in the eyes of the members here.

Here is the CNN Money dope on Colt's Bankruptcy: The iconic American gun manufacturer Colt is coming out of bankruptcy.

That said this thread is not about Colt's finances. The thread is about the incredibly sweet Colt that Yugoprk just acquired. Much like the current Python value thread it affords the Colt Hate Group an opportunity to crawl out from under their "Colt Sucks" rock and complain about Colt. This is simple, if you dislike Colt guns then choose not to own one, gee ain't America great?

Again, kudos to Yugoprk on a really sweet Colt revolver. Enjoy it and cherish it as you have one fine revolver there.

After reading that CNN article, does the author need to learn grammar all over again? Poorly written at best, and several bits of incorrect or misleading data.

Colt Defense has been in business for 160 years until this bankruptcy??

Colt makes compact pistols like theMustang*and*Defender, but customer seem to prefer Glock, especially itsnewly released pistol, the G43.

Colt has been a leading name in the gun industry since the 1840s, when the Texas Rangers adopted Sam Colt's revolver for the Wild West wars against the Native Americans.

Gotta love the media.

Nice find by the way. Looks great and the ivory looks awesome
