National Ammo Day

Any day that week counts. If you reload, components count. If you go to the range and shoot it all up, that counts. The original idea was for enough people to buy ammunition on that day that the retailers would see a definite spike in sales, just to remind them that we're here.

Hows that ZZ top song go?..."just got paid today...got me a pocket full of change..." :D

I'll set a bit aside for Monday. I need to change out my carry loads. Also, my grandson shot up a bunch of .22s last weekend. He's only three, but he likes his...( my )...pistols. :) don' worry. VERY safe. just us, good back stop, eye and ear protection and only 15 feet.

Mark.

Just A Reminder

Today is National Ammo Day! So do your part (if finances permit) and go buy some ammunition!

What I plan to buy today:

-200 rounds FMJ 90 gr .380 for my new Sig P232
-100 rounds FMJ 230 gr .45
-500 rounds FMJ 124 gr 9mm

These are going to be for practice, so I may replace the FMJs with Blazers if I find them.
I would buy more, but rent is coming soon.

Too late, I went to Wallyworld Sunday and bought 400 rds. of 45 ACP. Just seems like the thing to do when I'm there.

I'll be going to my locally owned shop today and putting some money directly into his pockets with my Ammo Day purchase. :D

"National Buying Days" are just as stupid as "National Boycott Days." They accomplish nothing. It's like those petitions to avoid buying gas on such-and-such date to "send a message" to the gas companies. It's useless. They don't care if you don't fill up on Tuesday, because they know you'll be in on Wednesday to buy gas in order to go places. Likewise, it shouldn't matter if people buy ammo on Tuesday or Wednesday - they will still be buying the ammo. The only people this benefits are ammo companies and retailers, legislators aren't even going to notice.

I hate to be the cynic, but phrases like "supporters should buy ammunition November 19th to support freedom" really piss me off. If I don't feel like giving Wal-Mart forty bucks today, I somehow don't support freedom?

...and people that feel the need to throw water on an effort to motivate gun owners to get away from their computer keyboards and actually get out there and participate in something piss me off.

There is a point to this that transcends gas boycotts and the like in that whereas everyone in the US uses gasoline not everyone regularly uses ammo. The point of an ammo day is to demonstrate the economic power that we, as gunowners, have and stop being a bunch of invisible armchair keyboard commandos.

If you don't like it, don't participate. But don't feel that it gives you the license to paint the rest of us as stupid because it doesn't suit you.

not everyone regularly uses ammo
That's exactly the point, and you've completely walked past it. People who don't shoot regularly aren't going to hop up and run to Dick's and buy a box of ammo today. The only people who are going to participate are those who envision themselves using the ammo - and those people would have bought the ammo anyway on a different day. If you shoot X amount of ammo per year, buying the cartridges on the 19th versus the 23rd won't change your habits, it'll just change whether or not you have to stop at wally world on the way to the range this weekend.

Not once did I paint participants as stupid; don't put words in my mouth. I said the idea is stupid. If you want to go out and buy ammo today, feel free. But you are naive if you think anyone other than some bean counters at retail outlets might notice. Let me know if you find a single mass media outlet running a story on this and I'll be impressed. I love RKBA demonstrations as much as the next, but going to the store and buying 50rds of 9mm does not a demonstration make.

I said the idea is stupid.
Semantics. By extension, if you follow the idea.....

But you are naive if you think anyone other than some bean counters at retail outlets might notice.

If they notice that much, I'm happy.

I think I'm all set for now. I just bought 1000 rds in 9mm and 500 rds in .40 on the 4th. That was to add to my already existing 450 rds of 9mm and 100 rds of .40! Wait........I could use some .38 (he said while dashing out the door clutching his trusty Visa card). D%#n, this is too easy!

Let me know if you find a single mass media outlet running a story on this and I'll be impressed.

See? It's working. This is what, the 4th year of National Ammo BUYcott day? Looks like it's gaining some legs finally.

But you are naive if you think anyone other than some bean counters at retail outlets might notice.
But that's precisely the point: To create a big enough of a "blip" on the sales reports to demonstrate that we can't be ignored.

It's the brain child of Kim du Toit who worked for years in data mining for retail chains. Seems he knows a thing or two about how it all works.

I got 6.5x55 dies and brass and bullets.

Who cares if it matters, it's a group activity where we show our solidarity!
