Hey folks!

So after I was shooting today with beloved SR22P I realized that I really needed another gun like it, but in a full size caliber.

The SR22P has been a "Jogging gun" for a little bit. It is small enough and light enough to be comfortable while running in a IWB holster.

I tried this with my Glock27 and went back home after a block because the weight and size made it bounce around too much. Too uncomfortable.

I've also found that I like DA/SA with a manual safety alot better than a DAO/Safe action trigger system.

So guide lines as to what I'm looking for are:

As compact, if not smaller than the SR22P

As light as the SR22P give or take a few ounces. (Bigger caliber, more weight obviously)

And preferably is DA/SA with a manual safety.

I prefer 9mm because of economy and good expansion with proper SD ammo, but if I must a .380 will do.

I'm really looking for something that can see a high round count as well, this will of course see alot of plinking.

Some guns I've researched and considered:

Ruger LCP/LC9, Sig P238/P938, Diamond Back .380/9mm, the Walther PPS/ PK.380, and the Kel Tec PF9.

I am iffy about the Kel Tec, I've heard so many mixed answers about KT's out of box issues, customer service issues, and the overall durability of their firearms that I am skeptical.

This is a long one! All info appreciated!

You sure you want a safety on that pocket rocket? If you're jogging and have to make a sudden grab for the gun, do you want to have to remember - with your heart already thumping - to "off" the safety? I would think you would be better off with one of the long DAO triggers.

The Sig P238, while in a class by itself compared to the other micro-9s, is probably not what you want in a jogging gun. I have one and love it, but it's rather heavy for a .380. If it were a carry-to-the-office gun, yes; jogging, probably not. I wouldn't touch a Diamondback for any serious CCW.

Too, if you want really light, you'll need to look at the .380s like the LCP or P3AT. At mere ounces, even loaded, it won't weigh you down on a run even with a secure holster. I know...the .380 vs 9mm debate, but everything is a trade off.

FWIW, if I were buying a jogging gun, I would look at KelTec or Taurus in .380. Cheap and reliable (fluff n buff sometimes needed), if it gets scratched up in a fall or drops from a pocket, you're not out much. Plus, a lifetime warranty should it be needed!

"DA/SA with a manual safety" - The first thing I think of is Beretta. Their Px4 subcompact is the smallest 9mm they make meeting your "requirement". But it is not "small" relative to the micro-9mm pistols.
There are several 380s out there matching your request. Bersa Thunder?

@DH

Thats actually a really good argument.

So lets throw out DA/SA and manual safety, how does that open my options up?

It opens you up to the Kahr CM9 and P380, both small enough to be comfortable running, bunch of other guns as well.

It's the holster you'll really want to do a good job with, as long as you find a gun that works for you and is small enough, the exact dimensions are less important than the way you'll be securing it to yourself. I would imagine that if you had a good belly band with a retention strap, even the Glock 27 wouldn't be too heavy, since you've attached it to yourself high enough and tight enough to eliminate any banging around.

I'd go with the Ruger LC9. I have one and love it. The DAO trigger is no big deal, if you've ever shot a DA revolver or DA/SA pistol you shouldn't have any trouble with the LC9

I am a noted Ruger fan, and while they are fine guns, I just don't like the LC9 personally. I do like the SR9's though. Quite a bit, actually. Perhaps a SR9C would fit the bill?

Ruger LC9? SCCY CPX-2 looks real good, but haven't handled one personally yet. Is the Ruger SR9c too big/heavy?

Okay, Rohrbaugh R9 (too much of a stretch?)

@NG VI

Although a belly band is very secure I PERSONALLY donot feel that it offers a quick enough draw. I usually wear a sweater or jacket while running since in Idaho about 2/3 of the year is +/- 60f.

@MedWheeler

The Ruger SR9C is attractive, but is on the heavier end of the spectrum I believe. (Don't quote me).

Also a certain Youtube reviewer who goes by the callsign "NutnFancy" who is an honest reviewer (albeit a little long winded) had to send his model back to the factory twice. That puts it on the IFFY list for me. Does the SR series still have this problem???
