Neighbor update ...

Go to the county clerk and get a copy of his deed. It will list his mortgage company on it. Contact the mortgage company and try to get them to forclose. Most mortgage contracts contain provisions about not allowing criminal activities on the property. Contact the local new station if the mortgage company will not forclose. Have all the neighbors write letters to the mortgage company. Coming out on tv saying that the mortgage company is supporting a sexual deviant will likely get something done.

I didn't see the original post, but if he was just selling it, that doesn't make him a super bad guy. I mean, is Walgreens bad for selling cigarettes? If you can make money off of other people being stupid, or wanting something stupid, then more power to ya.

I can now die secure in the knowledge that I've now heard everything. You can't be serious! Anyone who profits from criminal activity is complicit in that crime, meaning that if he's making money off of rape he's a rapist also. How in the world can a thinking human consider someone like this to not be a "bad guy". Think of what this type of product can incite other perverts to do. He's distributing misery. I'm simply amazed someone would try to defend this guy, wow..........

Tallpine, I really feel for you.

In my previous home, I had drug dealers living next to me.

I went through it all, threats (which I openly laughed at), tools stolen out of my garage, beer bottles all over my front lawn in the morning ( which I promptly tossed back), etc.

I called the cops often and took many pictures and videos.

It was a rough 2 years, but through it all, I never let them get the best of me. I never let them think that they had me scared. Most of all I didn't let them run me out of my home. In the end, their wreckless lifestyle led to the foreclosure of their house. They dug their own hole, and I managed to help them dig it without digging one for me as well.

You say his house is on the corner lot, right? Which means the property line is close by...

Could it be time to invest in some plain black windbreakers and royal robbins black 5.11's, a pair of big bino's, and a decent sized ("official looking" walkie talkie, and conspicuously observe all comings and goings from the house, from a plain-looking white crown vic on your property?

Kids at college -- that's where they are heading, no?
No, even though they are both honor roll students, they have decided for now to do something more practical with their lives. And I think they have acquired through all of this a high level of awareness - I have sure been hammering it into them anyway. I already bought a revolver for one daughter who is staying in the state, but not sure what to get (if anything) for the other who is moving to MI. Maybe a 22 rifle or a shotgun ...?

Keep a log of their comings and goings.
No one seems to be around there lately (????), but we are still keeping our guard up. Our old dog was chasing his car up and down the drive and he would honk at her, but then a few weeks ago she chased him all the way onto his property and started barking at him ... not good! So we tied her up for a while to avoid liability. Started turning her loose again, but haven't heard her chase anything so I think no one is coming in or out.

Personally, I think the dog knows more than we do, and that she chased him because she had found his scent on our place. I am actually starting to think that it was the neighbor himself rather than one of his guests, and maybe it was going on long before we alerted to it.

Call the cops alot.
Well, I have to have something solid for that (like a body, maybe :p ). We are WAY out in the hills and the sheriff doesn't come out here for much of anything. They are way understaffed and are supposed to also cover the county seat 24/7 (no city police) so that leaves very little (nothing) for the rest of the county.

You say his house is on the corner lot, right?
No, there is no such thing as a "corner lot" out here. His house is on the corner of his land instead of near the middle, like ours is.

His 40 is behind my 40 which means he has a legal easement through my land :(

I don't think he would be much more afraid of cops since he is already going to prison, at least for a while.

I do walk around on my land (and overlooking his house, but can't see much because of his trees) with a rifle whenever I get a chance. I also marked out the property line more clearly, and we are in the process (big job) of thinning trees and brush all the way up to the property line.

I'd personally pray for a lightning strike to set the pervs house on fire.
I'm not a praying person, but you know most of the neighborhood has no use for this scum. If a fire DID come through the immediate area though, I wouldn't be surprised if his house was deemed "not defensible" by the local VFD ;)

I feel for you. Call your DA and let them know your concerns. It will help if there ever is a problem. A neighborhood watch, that blatantly takes down the plates of all vehicles coming and going, might help.

I'm about to take a real unpopular position.

If the guy was selling videotapes of violent sexual acts, where the acts were reproduced - acted, not real - and the actors were over 18...then how is this a criminal act? Morally repulsive, yes. Absolutely disgusting, yes.

You and I may find the contents of the tape to be vomitous. That does not make him a criminal for selling them, or those involved - assuming again that those involved in the production were involved voluntarily.

Hey, if I were Tallpine, I'd be just as vigorous in looking after my family's safety under these circumstances. I would not trust that man or the kind of people his trade attracts.

My personal beliefs and values aside, so long as those involved in production of the tapes were adults and participated voluntarily, I see no reason to criminalize their production or trade.

How do I or anyone else prove these tapes were acts and not true, filmed rapes?

I don't.

The burden of proof rests with the accuser.

What've you've described isn't illegal, and certainly not by federal law. That same crap is on sale in "adult" stores across the nation.

Well, the first clue that these depicted criminal acts is that the guy plead guilty, and agreed to roll over on others. He's also facing some substantial penalties, so I doubt this is one of those "I'll plead guilty so it'll all go away."

Put a yard sign in front of your house with an arrow pointing at the neighbor's house that reads:

MY NEIGHBOR IS A FRICKEN PERVERT

If he has a problem with it, just tell him that his stuff is protected by the first amendment and so is yours.

get a dog that bites and reward it each time it does what its supposed to do but with some red meat.Im sure itll grow fond of the taste and if your snooper comes around, the dog is going to get a piece of him.

I sorta know what your going through, my sister has a neighbor thats just as wierd and whenever he doesnt like something, pets mysteriously end up poisoned.they watch my sisters place alot as family members have seen him standing at night on the edge of the property behind the trees bordering it. it bothers my family. police wont do anything because they cant prove it was him so my sis has been walking on pins and needles since. The guys a fruitcake.she has another dog to replace the one that was poisoned now and still has her other dog, the ridgeback which is very protective.

Beren: I actually tend to agree with you - up to a point. I am pretty open minded myself: whatever consenting adults do is their business unless it hurts somebody else. But this case seems to be pretty extreme:
Mark Morse, a U.S. postal inspector in Montana who viewed the videotapes seized in the case, called the material the worst he's seen in 20 years as an agent. "It would make some people physically sick to see them,'' he said. "They are graphic beyond belief. It's so far over the line, it's not even a close call.''

Titles included "Anything Goes'' and "Rape and Sodomize.''

Had the case gone to trial, the videotapes would have been played for a jury to decide whether they were obscene.

If any of you THR regulars want to read the articles, send me a PM and I will reply with the links. The "ringleader" of the whole operation pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court. That guy had previously been sentenced in December 2001 to two years of probation and was fined $10,000. Apparently then he moved the operation to my neighbor's place in MT, while still on probation

It's hard for me personally to view this case objectively, because this guy has been a male long-eared equine in general since we moved in 2 years ago. I tried to be nice, which was a mistake because he apparently took that for a weakness. I get along with my other neighbors great.

I have to be careful with my dogs, because if they go on his property and hurt him then I am liable. If they should happen to rip a trespasser to pieces on my land, that would be different. But the dogs don't know exactly where my 40 stops and his begins.

There doesn't seem to be anyone around right now. Apparently, he is off visiting or something before he has to go to jail ...

Another neighbor is going to help me later today or tomorrow to determine the exact property line with his GPS. Then I am going to mark it well ;)

Move? Not likely. I'd invest in a much larger dog first. Worst part is you don't know if it was the wierd neighbor by your haystack, or an acquaintence. Either way, I'd certainly feel the way you do, and do what it takes to make sure my family was safe. Bright side? - Maybe he'll be forced to sell once he goes to jail...

Horse Poop! :cuss:

I just saw the SOB checking his mail :(

He actually has the place listed right now - for at least twice what it is worth
He must not want to sell very bad, or else he thinks he will find a sucker.
If anyone here is interested, let me know and I will PM the R/E listing link.

well maybe someone will buy it or maybe he'll have such a fine that it'll go to court and sold at a sheriffs sale, then buy it cheap and rent it out.never know how it will turn out.but being in your shoes, ID guess Id find one way or another to get him to hate living there.him being a ped, theres no telling what they are doing and perhaps even "videoing" your place.I hope the situation improves for you and this bunch is tossed in the slammer. good luck.

But the dogs don't know exactly where my 40 stops and his begins.
well, 2 things you can do to fix that, get an invisable fence. the invisable fence works for my sisters ridgeback and it will not go outside the boundry, the collar has been removed as it has been trained. some people think its a cruel thing but its not permanent, just until its trained. the other thing is get a chain and attach it to a clothes line with just enough stretch to get to your boundry.

I'd look into setting up a camera or two. Anything that he does that you can PROVE now is a probation Violation.

"invisible fence" - well, I would need a mile of it to go around my land

"chain" - would need about 600' of that, too :p

Besides, we tried one of those shock collars on our old mutt when we were still in town ... it didn't even bother her. She is very headstrong and pain tolerant (st bernard mix).

ID guess Id find one way or another to get him to hate living there
One of my other neighbors and I surveyed the line with his GPS yesterday. My line is even closer to his house than I thought. Maybe I will get some pigs to feed out this summer ...

theres no telling what they are doing
You know, this makes me sick ... because I have no idea if he(they) might have gotten ahold of somebody and brought them up here :barf:
With the kind of movies he was selling, you just wonder when/if they will/have crossed the line to actually doing it. :uhoh:

"I already bought a revolver for one daughter who is staying in the state, but not sure what to get (if anything) for the other who is moving to MI. Maybe a 22 rifle or a shotgun ...?"

1187 20ga. Very light recoil and you can get one with a short barrel.

Why not fence in your land or part of it? Hog wire or barb wire ant that expensive.

Put your place on the market for three times what it is worth and it will help his sell.

Try to realize one thing...this is probably the only charge that they can make stick hard enough to give him some jail time.

Moreover, the justice system uses plea-bargaining to get people in jail, at least for a while.

The sad fact is this: a person who deals in child porno will and probably has crossed the line from looking to doing--more than once.

the only thing then I can suggest is to do what you can to get him to wanna leave(hogs do stink and the stench might work)put up some motion lights in close to occupied structures and practice your marksman skills on life sized paper targets if you can. him knowing you are armed and willing to defend your selves wmight be a good deterrant but then again, it might sert you up for a burglary so be careful.

I know some folks that added a couple roving peacocks to their land but they are in warmer climates, those goofy birds make alot of noise when someone approaches the buildings.just some ideas.

criminals dont like being exposed, they dont like lights and they dont like noise.

Seeing as how you have the property...

might be time to make a new rifle range....right at the edge of the property

30 fast rounds out of the SKS might make a believer of him. Fixed bayonet adds a certain flair. Shines real nice with the muzzle flash.

Maybe it's time for a THR get-together shoot in Montana. Couple thousand rounds per day ought to do the trick. Bet you'd get some volunteers.

I know a lot of the responders here suggest talking with the sheriff, local authorities, etc. That's OK when you live in a populated area. When you're in the country, it's you and the other guy. The only time the cops show up is for the investigation. When you can't even find the country from where you live, it's worse.

Last time someone here had to call the sheriff , it took 35 minutes, and that was code III.

Personally, I'd make him think I was crazy as hell. Stay on your own property but target practice at 3am. If a few whiz thru his tree tops....oh well.

Stop anybody going up the lane. If they don't like it, who are they gonna call??? People like that prey on the weak.

Have you priced steel lately ???? :what:

T-posts alone have gone up from about $1.60 to over $3.00. We did get a bundle of Chinese ones  :uhoh: for $2.60 each the other day. This ain't a city lot, you know ;)

I would like to fence most of my land, put gates at both ends of his drive (that he would have to open and close each time), and then get a couple cows(steers) to feed out for the summer.

I am trying to be somewhat obnoxious and still stay legal. The last couple hours I have been out thinning pine trees and cutting juniper right up to the property line near his house. Sunday morning 9am :p

Doing this mainly for fire protection purposes, and also to remove hiding places.

The 20ga shotgun sounds like a good idea. The 1187 is a semi-auto, right...?

The sad fact is this: a person who deals in child porno will and probably has crossed the line from looking to doing--more than once.
Powderman, that is the assumption that I am going on, and why I was so concerned about the "prowler" incident in December. Actually, I don't know that the materials he was selling involved child porn - and I don't want to see it to find out - but according to the prosecution at least one gang rape was filmed or portrayed. Some of it could even be gay stuff for all I know. Anyway, it wasn't just nude pictures.

While my two 18 yo daughters are still living at home, I can't afford to be too careful.

I know some folks that added a couple roving peacocks to their land but they are in warmer climates, those goofy birds make alot of noise when someone approaches the buildings.just some ideas.

Guinea fowl are pretty hardy, will roost in trees, aren't pricey (or at least weren't 45 years ago) and will definitly raise hell when anything disturbes them.

Hogs can stink a place up pretty effectively and if nasty enough - like an old sow with piglets - could make a pretty effective watch dog (er hog).

Dairy cows are noisy as anything, especially when hungry or needing milked; pen 'em right next to his property line. Although the bottom feeder might poison or shoot them and the cows don't deserve that.

Have you chatted him up yet? Just because he has an easement does that mean that he gets a straight shot across your place? Why not dig a big hole, keep it full of water, and fence his route so he has to contend with it everytime he comes and goes?

Sounds like a good excuse to go out and buy another gun. Even if you don't need it, it'll make you feel better. Always works for me.
