"Never sell a gun"

I have given away 2 788 Rems in .243 Win, a Remington 'Scoremaster' .22, sold a Remington 78 'Sportsman', and last week gave my niece's 5 year old a Crosman 760 BB Gun. I wish I had one of the 788s back for my wife to deer hunt with.

Almost without exception, the money from every gun I've sold was used to buy another gun that I wanted more. I've never regretted any of my sales.

I normally don't buy a gun unless I plan on keeping it forever, so I never sell them if they work. Now if it is a Jam-O-Matic it'll get sold. And no I don't buy them for investinments, unless you count guns I want mainly to pass down to my kids as investments.

I've regretted several, and all were sold to buy something i thought i wanted more, or to keep the lights on and food on the table.

As I have learned to manage money a bit better, I have been able to resist the impulse to sell, as well as the impulse to buy.

I have moved some to consolidate calibers, and downsize my life a bit also.

I sure miss that Mannlicher MCA carbine in 243. And the Garand I rebuilt in gunsmithing school. I also miss my 5 1/2 Super Blackhawk...

But the guns I have now suit me and I am becoming attached to them. Some will be given away to friends and children, over time.

take care,

Tom

I've only sold 4 guns over the years. I kinda miss 2, the other 2 not at all. Guns in my safe need to serve a niche, & I normally don't get too attached to them unless it has a family connection.

Had a pair of Glocks many years ago. They're long gone. Nothing wrong with em, just not my thing, & don't miss them at all. Wish I had used the money from the sale for other guns though. Live & learn.

Gave my Dad a CZ-52 for Father's Day one year. He had trouble racking the slide a year later because of arthritis, so I replaced it with a S & W revolver. He eventually gave me the CZ back. I liked it, but had absolutely no use for it except the fun quirk factor of "the beautiful ugly". Came across an XD 9 with 4 mags here in the sale forum one day for $300, so I sold the CZ to help fund the XD. GREAT deal on the XD, glad I bought it, but kinda miss the CZ now. Wish I still had it.

Just sold the first shot gun I ever owned the other day. It was an old Stevens single shot 410 that was in good shape, I had it since I was 10 years old, & I sold it cheap. I'll probably regret that some day. But I just had absolutely no use for it. Don't hunt, wouldn't use that gun even if I did hunt, wouldn't use it for HD, & it went to a good home. I may miss it for sentimental reasons later, but eveything in my safe tends to have a specific purpose, it's getting crowded, & I'll use the cash from it to go towards something that I will use.

Only gun that I don't have a real use for that I'll never sell is an old S & W Safety Hammerless model 1. Was given to me by family, has the cool factor of being almost 125 years old, & doesnt take up much room in the safe.

I'd say if the piece doesn't serve a real purpose for ya, have a real fun factor to it, or have some cool history to it, then sell/trade it for something that does.

Sold a .257 Roberts in pre-64 winchester made in early 50's. Bought a pre-warning no 1 and .243 Ruger 77 with the money. I am behind at least 1500.00 on the deal. Won't sell another until I am dead or dying.

I once sold a Ruger 10-22 I owned. I probably wouldn't sell it again if I still have it OTOH I could always buy another one if I really wanted thast kind of gun.
I have some guns I would NEVER sell -- guns I inherited from my father; a 12 gauge Browning A-5, A Remington 550-1 semi auto .22, the M-1 Carbine he brought back from Korea, a Remington Model 17 pump 20 gauge.

I've sold several guns or well more than several don't regret it on any of them yea there's a few that where nice but nothing I couldn't just go by again for what I sold it for

I've sold a few back in the day, when you're unemployed with little kids and Christmas coming on fast you do what you have to do.

But not anymore, I wouldn't feel comfortable selling but maybe a trade.

If I don't shoot it, and don't plan on passing it on to the kids I'll sell them in a heartbeat and buy something I will.

No sweat.

I think a lot of the regret people voice either stems from sentimental loss, in the way many of us wish we could have our first car back, or because they were forced to sell them for financial reasons.
Although I would never admit this to my wife, one can only shoot so many rifles at one time...

The only 2 guns i sold were my Ruger P95 and P90. I dont miss the P95, but miss the P90. It was an accurate, dependable gun. i replaced it with an XD 45 compact - and am happy with the gun but wish I kept the P90.

I have made the exact statement; that I would never sell anything working. I have also changed my mind recently. I have a bunch of safe queens; some of which have not been fired in years, some never at all!

I am actively going through this collection & trading / selling in order to buy guns I will actually use. I recently traded a Vaquero and a Tomcat straight up for a NIB CZ 85. In three weeks, I have already put more rounds through that CZ than the other two combined; and I have enjoyed it far more.

I am looking to do this some more. If I continue to trade in wholesale into a retail offering, I know I am leaving $$$ on the table. I don't really care. The collection frankly needs to be smaller if what is left gets used & enjoyed more.

Well, I'm a senior citizen, and in my over 50 years of firearms ownership I've bought, sold, traded, or given away many, many firearms..

I will agree that IF you have a particular firearm that you have a reason to want to keep for one reason or another, (e.g. I still have a pos 25cal.Galesi because it was my 1st new pistol, bought wayyy back in 1966, and it's still a clunker) but really if you have a firearm you don't feel warm and fuzzy about then there's certainly nothing wrong in parting with it.

I would also say I would never sell a firearm unless I had another one lined up.. I don't think selling a firearm to buy more video games, or watches, or whatever, makes good sense, but that's just my opinion.

Sooner or later each of us will buy a firearm or two that somehow we find lacking in whatever qualities we thought it had when we bought them... Sell the suckers.. Sooner or later each of us will, probably, find a firearm we really, really (think) we have to have, and therefore need to sell something to buy something.. Do it.

For example I recently sold a pristine "A" grade HK P7 to help finance a new HK P2000sk V3. Some folks say don't sell such things because they aren't making any more, etc. but I had three.. Heck, I still have two, but also now have a very, very nice HK P2000sk V3 that I like so much it has become my 9MM cc choice, and I've put my other compact 9's in the gun safe.

I'm not a "collector", I'm a gun lover, and I shoot what I own. Just having something to look at simply does not "move me", but I have no problem with those folks to whom collecting is a fun past time. To each his/her own..

So I would say sell any firearm you aren't in love with, but replace it with some other firearm you really, really want. If THAT firearm is somehow lacking, start the procedure all over again until you are happy..

I would also suggest buy quality, rather than quantity. :)

Just personal opinion, if it goes contrary to your opinion, no offense intended.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

never sell a gun

Hello friends and neighbors//Never say never , sold a 44 ruger redhawk to pay for repairs on my 1970 ford bronco pop-up camper 4x4. Hated doing it but don't regret it. Bought it for $350 sold it 4 years later for $450.//// Only other weapon I've sold was a mossberg combo shotgun. 28"w/ shoulder stock or 18 1/2" pistol grip. Could not hit with the long gun nearly as well as my 870 wingmaster and a highschool friend loved the 18 1/2" set up. ..so sold it for what I paid for it. Mainly I am to cheap to buy something I really don't want. To each his own......content

The guns I sold were like pets that I could not take care of anymore. I don't regret selling them, an Eagle Arms AR-15 and a G17. It's just that at the height of the ammo scare, I could not afford to feed the AR and the maintenance was something I didn't want to do anymore.

However, the G17 was sacrificed to get my new SP101 2.25 in 357, so win some lose some. :)

I regretted selling two of mine (series 70 Colts). However, I needed money while between jobs and did what I had to do. By and large I don't get attached to my possessions, but I never owned a gun I didn't like.

Sell them if you need to, just make sure to think twice about it before you do. Guns I've inherited will never be sold. Guns I bought myself are another matter.

Recently sold three guns to finance a new rifle, couldn't afford it otherwise. I liked all that I sold but didn't shoot them that much.
S&W 4506-still have 3 1911 style 45's that I like better
P1-Interesting but it never 'grabbed' me
Yugo M48-still have a K98 that is a better shooter and some 03's to feed the bolt action addiction

Rolled the money into a S&W MP-15X with EOTech sight

Thought long and hard about selling, and know that I made the right decision for me

I once traded an IBM M1 Carbine for an excellent condition Martini-Henry. At the time that was a smoking good deal, because M1 Carbines were cheap and readily available.

In the meantime M1 Carbines have gone through the roof, so I really wish I had paid cash.

Otherwise, I can't think of one gun I've sold that I really regret. I have a much longer list of guns that I wish I'd bought when I had the chance.

I look at it this way: I'm single and childless, likely to stay that way, and almost out of debt. (Except for those pesky school loans!) My home is paid for, so are my cars.

So I should but my money in a bank and watch inflation nibble it away? Put it in the stock market and then hang on the ticker?

Or I could buy the guns that intrigue me and develop a collection that's fun to shoot, useful for my sculptor, painter, and novelist friends, and who knows, I may have to hunt for food again some day!

I don't regret the guns I've sold (for the most part), but only regret the ones I didn't buy! Ones that for whatever reason I passed on and now wish I'd bought them.

The ones I've sold for the most part is because my needs changed, or there was something about them I found I didn't like. Catch and release.

There are a couple I have now that are absolutely keepers, like my custom built Nighthawk Talon II bobtail. It was built exactly to my specs and I doubt I'd spend that much on a pistol again. And I love shooting it. ;)

Others on that list are my M1 Garand, my Colt Mustang (it was one I regretted not buying in the past) and probably my Python. I wouldn't consider any of the others, though I like them, sacred.

The only guns I have sold I´ve sold to close friends so that they "stay in the family"... Both of these were sold because I wanted to buy identical rifles, but in better condition than the ones I had before..

When I was younger and a lot dumber I sold my Python, Nylon 66 and and OLD Remington ADL in .270

BOY WAS I STUPID BACK THEN

I've sold two guns I was not using. It bothers me if I have something I have no use for. They were replaced with guns that met my needs better.

They were both in working condition. I would never sell a gun that does not work properly. I consider that to be dishonest unless it's been disclosed to the buyer. I had a vendor who advertised himself to be a gunsmith who felt quite comfortable sending me an unreliable, dangerous gun for my money.

I was 16 years old and had a better collection of firearms than many have at age 30. Ever since i was real little i had loved firearms and had done everything possible to learn to use them, learn and appreciate the history of them, gaston glock eugene stoner mikhail kalashnikov and john browning were my heros, and i trained and shot like hell every gun i ever had or had messed around with. again at age 16 i had a bushmaster ar, russian vepr ak, glock 17, ruger 10/22, savage 308. le customised, 870 exp tactical, moisin nagant, nazi proof kar 98, usp 40 list goes on and on. well i had gotten into a dispute with my father over my future after high school and other issues concerning my future wife and such and i moved out on the day of my birthday when i was 18. my dad decided to run up credit cards and binge on stupid bs and got himself into some serious debt. What did he do you ask???? HE SOLD ALL OF MY GUNS AND I MEAN ALL OF THEM!!! i had found out what he had done a few days after he did it and was PISSED off to the point i thought i could never forgive him. I had THOUSANDS of dollars of guns that i had saved up and bought from age 13 to 18 and worked my ass off to get it (everything from telemarketing to construction to working at wendys). His response was he bought me a ak-74 variant and i told him to basically piss off and turned around and traded it for a tacticool scope. Funny thing is that he is in such a bad shape he begs me to buy his guns off of him to pay bills and i lowball the hell out of him for them. karma is a bitch isnt it
