The Gun that Got Away?

Smith & Wesson model 629 in great shape with box/papers. Guy was asking $500 (private at a gunshow), I didn't have it. I had a Sig P6 and $100 on me. He was thinking about trading me, a guy came up and offered him $450. He took it. I should have offered $450 and hit the ATM, then sold the P6. I still shake my head that he took $450 for that thing.

At a gun show in 1991, a week before the Brady Bill went in to practice, I passed on a Winchester Model 12 riot gun marked "Sing Sing Prison" for $500.....the worst part, I got talked in to a new Llama 45 for $300. I'm still trying to sell the Llama, and I'm betting I might get $300-350 for it, in almost new condition, more than 20 years later! At that point in life, the extra $200 seemed a bridge too far. I wish I had it now!

Whoa............ In the words of Randy Travis - "Diggin up bones" and exhuming things thats better left alone... :(

But since were there already:

Entire Marlin Lever Action collection incl. some 1893,1894,1895 models in octagon barrel 32-20 and 39's incl. A M & a Golden (Divorce Sell) :cuss:

Now for the things I Passed on or let go:

Sold and Regret:

Thompson Contender
Dessert Eagle .41 Magnum
Smith & Wesson Model 39
Smith & Wesson Model 57
Smith & Wesson Model 625
Colt Gold Cup Series 70 :banghead: (what was I thinking)
Smith & Wesson/Howa Model 1500 .300 Magnum

Then there are the deals that pass us by:
(And I have learned over the years to carry squirrel money in wallet between thanksgiving and week before Christmas-I stopped worrying about taking advantage, cause they are on a mission...SOMEONE is going to get that gun for what they need...not what its worth!)

Taurus Raging Bull .454 - $500
Marlin/Winchester .30-.30 -$150
STAG/DPMS - Guy had a stag 6.8 and Dpms .308 needing $1500 (not sure models, but they looked nice - and I was not prepared - My friend had money in his pocket and said "you mind" I said nope go for it.

There are always a lot of little deals that show up like these and I have learned to keep a stash.

Not a gun but here is my honorable mention of greatest screw up!
I was offered a Running, Driving 1968 Mustang GT500KR Shelby for $3500, I was mid 20's and could have borrowed the money, but thought it was too much to borrow???:banghead:

I'm now kicking myself for passing up a $275 Swiss K31 in immaculate condition at a local gunshow this morning.
I walked away thinking I'd go back in a half hour & when I got back, someone else was just handing over the cash for it. :(

Ah well.

Early "19-teens" Parker VHE in 12 gauge at a gun show. I was $100 shy and he wouldn't budge because 1) it was already priced low so 2) someone else would have it.

1. First Generation Ruger Vaquero. Accurate, fun to shoot. Traded it for something else, can't even remember what.
2. Norinco MAK-90. Never shot it anyway. Traded it to get funds for (IIRC) a car. Now I wish I'd at least shot it, even once!

colt series 70 in bright stainless. The thing was in like new condition. I'm still kicking myself.

HK P7M8. Traded it towards a nice BMW motorcycle, but I still miss that pistol something fierce. It's what made me decide to never get rid of any gun I had any sort of affinity for.

Passed on a new in box Sig Sauer P220 for $269 asking price. Probably could have gotten it for $249.

Times got lean and I had to sell some stuff. I regret every one of them.

Colt Match Target HBAR II. 16" barrel post-ban AR.
Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in. 223, like new.
Sig Sauer P230.

about 1985 in a junk/antique store off Skyline Drive here in Va., I came across a Volcanic pistol. Large size, a reproduction, I'm sure- in about 90% condition. The price was $75.00 , I had 2 young kids and I just didn't feel like I should spend the money. I've never seen another, and I've looked.:cuss:

A LNIB w/papers and all the trimmings S&W Model 58 .41 Magnum for 550 out the door at a pawn shop. Went back the next day, gone.

Just my very sad .02,
LeonCarr

No question that after missing on inexpensive (relatively) full autos before the cut-off, it would be a Johnson Rifle or 6 when they were being sold out of a pickle barrel in a pawn shop outside of Fort Bragg in the early '80's.

I remember in the back of the gun rags SKS rifles were $79 a piece... should have grabbed a bunch of those.
Someone had a NY compliant Bushmaster with a lot of good stuff on it plus a very expensive scope for only $850 posted up for private sale at my local shooting club. Shoulda bought that one, too.

New in 1979 --- Sako(short action) Vixen,.223 L461 Deluxe single shot bolt action. One of the most accurate rifles I have ever had my hands on. Had to sell it in 1984, work was slow and my daughter and son needed school colthes.

Traded a Ruger SRH .44 for a S&W .357 & a Browning Hi-Power 9mm. I then traded the those guns for a nice stereo system. The stereo was very nice, but looking back, I wish I'd kept the HP. Oh well.

Ran across a supposedly used Ruger 77 in .260 in a shop in KY, had it in my hands three or four times and honestly could not see a sign it had ever had its initial post-factory cleaning let alone that it had ever been fired. Had scope rings, box--was priced about $150 less than new.

Still can't believe I left it for someone else.

I probably shouldn't have sold my father's S&W 12-2 he bought new. He hardly ever shot it. And I never shot it. I still have no need for a snub, but I should have kept it.
I still have his Colt targetman, I'm giving it to my sister's son.

About two years ago I looked at, fondled, and waited one day too long on a Dan Wesson CBOB at $750 in a LGS.

Stupid!

An old Mossberg 800 bolt action in .243 about 5-6 years ago. Saw it in a pawn shop - asked what their best price was and was quoted $145. I have no earthly idea why (probably one of those "I've bought too many guns lately." moments), but I decided to sleep on it.

Naturally, it was gone when I came back the next day.
