The Gun that Got Away?

Colt Gold Cup that i sold to a friend for $500 in the mid 90's He moved out of town. We still keep in touch but I haven't ever asked him about it. I figure that chances he still has it are about .001%.

Marlin 45/70 lever gun (micro groove) that shot cast bullets like nobody's business. It was stolen and recovered with a ding in the magazine tube so I sold it. Wish I hadn't.

A Spanish double barrel 12 gauge. It was a beautiful gun and I paid just a pittance for it. Knowing me I probably traded it for less. The maker was Larona, maybe? Does that sound right? Anyway it was a nice gun that I would love to still own.

An original pre-ban Colt AR-15 with lug and flash hider. I traded my crappy Ranch Rifle for it (plus cash) and I think I sold it for $500.

A beautiful Model 28 Highway Patrolman that had never been carried and was tight as a drum. Paid $200 for it in the late 80's and I don't remember how much I got for it.

Liberty model Ruger 357 Super Blackhawk that I bought for $189 and traded for some kind of turd, I'm sure.

IBM 30 carbine. I bought it because I used to work for IBM. Paid $350 for it. It often malfunctioned (which is why I sold it) but I wish I still had it now.

I'm sure there are others I'll think of later.

I remember finding a S&W Model 1000 shotgun that was specifically designed for skeet. A beautiful gun that was made in very limited numbers and was LNIB with a spare barrel for field use. Saw it on Saturday at a gunshow; did some research on it that night and went back first thing Sunday morning, and of course it was gone.

I was just a kid...maybe 10 or 12...and my uncle was selling a Colt .45 auto...for $50 . I didn't have money and dad couldn't front me so it went away. :(

Thats really the one real sad story of lost chances I have.

A Dan Wesson 1911 for 400 bucks at a pawn shop (2011). I didn't know a thing about them at the time, went home and reasearched it and found it was worth 1100 dollars. I went back the next day and it was gone...

A 6" barrel Colt Python blued in great shape at another pawn shop for $600 (2011). It was a little expensive for me, but layaway would've been an option...

I lament the sale of my SKS several years ago. Until I replace it, I will always regret it. I find that when I sell a firearm, I don't miss it as much if I replace it immediately with something else. Replacing it with cash just doesn't cut it. And I miss it more now that I'm collecting milsurps.:banghead:

I also regret not buying a dozen of them when they were $89 dollars at every gun show.

I let this one go about 18 years back.

About a month ago, it was returned to me. I almost did a happy dance.

There have been many over the years! In the 80s I sold a xm-177 commando a colt best verson of a car-15!

I had a nice Turkish Mauser slip away from me a few years back that wound up going for $250. Not too upset, though. I eventually got a beautiful one of my own.

I sold my father's Winchester Model 70 in .225 Winchester for him a few years ago. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just rebarreled it to .223. I mostly regret never shooting it, though.

I recently passed on an old Colt Police Positive. It was rough, but functioned and felt good in the hand. I balked when I found out that it was in .38 short. I should have bought it and figured out how to reload for it. Passing up on that gun whetted my interest for a double action revolver so I did something stupid and traded away my Old Model Blackhawk in .30 Carbine for a S & W 65. I like the 65, but miss the Blackhawk.
