Well folks, finally another project completed.

Armalite M15 A4T Upper with 24" Free Floated Barrel.
Bushmaster "BF" Prefix Lower with Rock River Arms Green Furniture.
Armalite 1pc Mount
Leupold VXII 3-9x40mm Scope

Tomorrow I take her out to the range and needless to say, I'm very excited about it! I'll also post a range report in addition to this.

Some Pics and other things I noticed.

The first image is of the complete rifle. Some things are a bit off shade because I didn't oil everything down to make things match before taking the pics. I was a bit of a hurry, still things matched pretty good. The Armalite upper is a very close shade to the Bushy Lower, even without an oil coating. Upper and lower fit was acceptable, but I will get a tensioning pin to get a "zero" slop fit.

This next pic is of the balance point of the rifle. I would have thought that the balance would be muzzle heavy because of the heavy 24" stainless steel barrel, but I was wrong. As you can see in the pic she balances a bit forward of the FFHG ring. Adding a loaded magazine makes an extremely stable platform to fire from. Ohh..and that's a wooden train whistle. :D The barrel also has a recessed crown to help prevent damgage.

This next picture is a bit blurry, but it marks an Armalite upper. "AR" and a "+ " in a circle much like the NATO mark.

This next pic was a pleasant surprise. "M4" type feedramp cuts for reliable feeding.

Stainless steel railed gas block secured by allen head bolts instead of conventional pins. You can also see the handguard "cap". The handguards are fiberglass and very sturdy in feel. They are a bit smooth so I may be looking for some skateboard tape or something of that nature to add some gripping texture. Folks with large hands will love this hanguard. They feel huge in comparison to other conventional free float "varminter/target" handguards on the market. They feel about the same diameter of a railed handguard with panels installed, almost like gripping a tennis ball. The handguards also had a stud and a QD swivel attatched at the factory.

Overall I am very pleased with this new project. I'll have a range report tomorrow.

Man, that's NICE! :D
Now ya got me all excited about the Special Project rifle I'm working for (...see my signature).
It'll look similar to that, only BIGGER! :neener:

For a good grip, try this. Buy a spindle of 'parachute' type cord. You can use parachute cord, but I prefer the smaller diameter stuff that just looks like parachute cord. Loop it around and tie the loop end where the swivel stud is, letting the excess hang down as the muzzle is pointed up When you coil the cord, this will disappear. Coil the cord as tight and close as you can get it down to the rear and then back up. I like tying them close to the swivel stud to hide the wrap. The great thing about wrapping the fore-end is that you can take it off and replace it if it gets worn, faded, dirty, etc., then you can just redo it.

Me, I like it because the aluminum handguards (that are cheaper) are a pain to hold when they get hot or cold. The extra insulation really helps. The only thing I'd be worried about would be melting. If the handguard is getting THAT hot then I wouldn't be able to hold it anyhow...

Very, very nice. I bet that will shoot like who done it.

I just put the finishing touches on a project of my own. The other day I finally got my upper in .458 SOCOM. It has a DPMS Lo-Pro upper reciever (no dust cover, no forward assist), 16" stainless barrel, float tube, four rail gas block, muzzle brake. Then I added a set of back up iron sights. But, today I got the scope mount and ended up having to remove the rear sight. The scope mount is an ARMs #360SR Swan Sleeve, ARMs #35 30mm rings, ARMs #37 ring inserts. I put a Leupold Vari-X III 2-8x scope on it that I had lying around doing nothing. This isn't the final configuration, but I had the scope already and figured it would be nice for working up loads. I don't know what I will put on it when all is said and done. Probably an Aimpoint ML2.

I haven't fired it yet, but it should be very accurate. A buddy of mine had one and it is a tackdriver with a lot of punch.

Busmaster,

It'll look similar to that, only BIGGER!

Ahhh..since selling my FAL I'm without a .308 battle rifle. Armalite is definitely in the running as well as a Springfield Armory M1A.

Badger,

The para cord is a good idea and I've seen it used a couple of times. I'll be mounting a 8" long rail under the handguard to use as a "track" for a bipod, so I wouldn't be able to wrap it like that. Bummer because it would be neat if I could find some desert sand colored para cord.

I'll keep her green for a while until I get some Bowflauge in. Then I'll give her a neat desert scheme.

444,

Wow..sounds really nice! I want to do something like that in my next AR for hunting piggies and deer here in Florida. Either that or a .300 Whisper.

Good Shooting

EVERY TIME I start thinkin' "OK, I'm done buyin' rifles", one or more of you guys comes up with a stellar idea like...

...UPPERS in a different caliber or configuration.

EVERY TIME, I tell you!

:banghead: :D

I looked at the .300 Whisper, but to me, it has nothing to offer over the .458.
The .458 will shoot a 350 grain bullet at 2000 fps. If you want to supress it, I woud rather have a big chuck of lead at subsonic speed.
But, they are all fun.

Well folks,

Went to the range today with some Win USA 40 rd Value pack 55gr FMJ ammo. Average group size was an honest 1" with this ammo. It would have been better except that I'd get two shots almost touching each other and then have a flyer spoil the group.

Shooting at the 300 meter metal swinging plate target was almost monotonous because you knew if you had the crosshairs on the target there would be no doubt you would hit every time. Just to break up things I broke out the Russian M44 to snipe at 300 meter targets! :D

I definitely need to try here with some better ammo and a better trigger. As for the Leupold, well she's the best I've ever had by far. Super clear and excellent repeatability.

A 2 stage trigger is definitely in order next payday!:D

Good Shooting
