I'm just curious what revolver folks keep at their bedside, or think is the optimal bedside revolver.

I currently keep a pre lock 686+ with 2.5 inch barrel loaded with either 38 golden sabers or Speer short barrel 38s. I'd perhaps opt for a longer barrel if I owned any other revolvers that held 7 or more rounds.

The gentleman I purchased this revolver from loaned it to his girlfriend for home defense many years ago. One night a convicted sex offender broke into her home and she successfully defended herself with it, so I figure it's got a good pedigree.

As a side note, last year I missed the chance to buy a pre lock 627 PC for $1000. By the time I contacted the fellow it was sold. I've since seen them sell for $3000. I'm still not over that missed opportunity. At any rate a pre lock 8 shot or perhaps a new 8 shot Redhawk is my ideal beside revolver.

While I don't currently keep a wheel gun on my nightstand, I have in the past.

    I've kept a 4" M19 in the past loaded with 38 Hydrashoks, and a 6" 686+ with various 125gr and 140gr HP 357 loads.

    The wife's nightstand gun is a revolver. It's a 4" Taurus 82 .38 Spcl loaded with +P Golden Sabers.

Summer carry convenience has led to a LCR in 38 special, and since I keep it in my nightstand I'll call it my nightstand revolver, with 135 grain +P gold dots. But if I had to pick one strictly for nightstand only, it would be my 4" 686-6.

My bedside gun has been an HK45 for awhile now, but if I was to choose a revolver it would be this one. A 3" 686+ Talo. If I was going to buy a revolver for HD, it would be a 629 5" barreled gun, loaded with warm 44 spl ammo.

I have but 3 revolvers. All at one time or another have spent time on/in the night stand. The Vaquero is always there or on the shelf below as I like to play with it. IMO all three (the Vaquero 45 Colt, Smith 686 and Taurus 85)are up to the task of HD

I'm not sure I can judge "optimal" for any one else's needs -- let alone my own... :)

At the risk of derision, my first-line nightstand piece is a S&W Governor with Federal Premium .410 ammo (in the drawer are two moonclips of some flavor of .45 ACP hollow points). In that drawer also sits a S&W Model 10 with .38 +P hollow points. Next to the Model 10 is a Glock 27 with a 9-round magazine of (I think) 135-grain hollow points. On my wife's side of the bed is a S&W 640 (.38 only) with 148-grain wadcutters (I'd rather she hit what she aims at, rather than missing with monstrous bangs).

That's all I have on hand until I have to resort to the Mossberg 500... :)

I keep an HK P7M8 by the bedside, but if I did keep a revolver on the nightstand, it would be the S&W 929

My nightstand gun for the last 11 years has been a S&W model 431PD 32 mag. The one with a hammer. It is also the gun that drops in my pocket if I go see what made a strange noise outside. No one knows I have it. I have full confidence in its power. Plus its just a cool round to have.

My nightstand revolvers are either my 627 PC or my model 29, loaded with specials. Occasionally it had been my Taurus 617 with. 38's IMG_20170524_204810372.jpg IMG_20151226_160558019~4.jpg IMG_20151226_161007909~2.jpg

An El Patron Competition in .45C most of the time. Sometimes a Whitneyville Dragoon in .45C and sometimes . . . . . Both!! Oh, and sometimes, a 1st Mod. Dragoon in .45C gets thrown in the mix as well. The wife's side will have a Taurus 85 . . . . . . . she's a good shot!

At one time I use to keep a 4" Model 10 for home defense. Kept a three cell Streamlight flashlight with it for illumination. Have pretty much switched over to a semi-auto nowadays (SIG P229R), along with a rail mounted laser/light module.
