North Carolina's onerous "pistol purchase permit" requirement

I have contacted my rep about exempting pistols made in or before 1918 from the pistol permit.

He is a Democrat and he approves of the idea.

There is a good chance such a bill will be introduced next year to do that.

Basically change '1898' with '1918'

Any handgun right now made in or before 1898 doesn't require a permit.

That has not be changed since 1969!

Also a permit is needed for any PISTOL that fires blanks

We here in MO managed to get that idiot "permit to acquire a concealable handgun" removed last year.

Do you happen to have a reference to the bills or legislative proceedings that led to that change in the law? I'd enjoy reading what the bill's sponsors had to say about the existing laws. It sounds like you in MO faced the same problem and were successful in doing something about it. We should be able to do the same thing here.

SB 62 (passed in 2007) is the bill you're wanting to see.

Much of what went down was discussed over on missouricarry.com. The PTA removal was included with a Castle Doctrine bill. The best way to find out exactly how the ball started rolling would be to message some of the mods over at missouricarry, specifically Tim Oliver and "realtor." Those two guys were largely the spearhead in the fight, and they would be the ones to talk to to replicate our success in your home state.

Good luck.
