NRA Built Massive Gun Owner Database

*shrug*

every advertiser out there has the same thing and more.

Why do you think the gov really doesn't care about a database, they know Google has one they can buy/rent/demand when the day comes. Luckily the same laws that prohibit gov from making on on a federal scale also prohibit them from buying or renting one.

Duh.............of course they have a data base of their members. And, what exactly is the interests of the members? chris3

so... you're not an NRA member?

seriously, that's about the dumbest article i've seen all year.

you did business with the NRA? yeah, they know your name and email and address

I'm not too worried about a gun database.

What are they going to do...come and take my guns?

I wonder if the American Gun Owners Alliance keeps a database?

Are we supposed to be worried that it will be turned over to BHO for some sort of gun confiscation?

LOL......

Duh.............of course they have a data base of their members. And, what exactly is the interests of the members? chris3
Did you folks read the article, it's NOT just their members .... from the article:

That database has been built through years of acquiring gun permit registration lists from state and county offices, gathering names of new owners from the thousands of gun-safety classes taught by NRA-certified instructors and by buying lists of attendees of gun shows, subscribers to gun magazines, and more

Indeed--they know who their members are, but are there not NRA members who do not own a gun? I would bet my teeth there are.

To answer that question yes we do. Of people who VOLUNTARILY submit their information for membership.

And think about WHO could gain access to that list via hacking ... anyone say the NSA?

For the purpose of raising funds, I suspect. The NRA has every right to purchase lists from organizations and persons who have proper authorization to sell them.

Yup. A gun organization has info on their members. Not just any info, but "massive database" on every gun owner. Wow, what a shock.
Amazing the level of paranoia some folks have.

OMG OMG OMG! Do you suppose Walgreen's has a massive data base of my condom purchases?

That database has been built through years of ...gathering names ...and by buying lists of attendees of gun shows...

Raise your hand if you sign in when you attend a gun show.
I didn't think so.
But if you're going to pad the hysteria...

Have you ever posted to a gun forum? Guess what... your information has been collected in a database.

Ever done an internet search? You guessed it... who you are and what you searched for is forever preserved in a database.

Heck, when I go to the grocery store, they print off coupons specifically for me based on my purchase history. How do they know my purchase history? It's all in a database.

If that all seems a little too tin foil hat-ish to you, your only real alternative is to become a self-sustainable hermit.

Good luck with that...

Did you?

Have you ever heard of marketing? Every organization wants to build a list of potential supporters/customers from every shared interest source available to them. They then market those individuals.

You can't be ignorant of this fact considering you're the Founder at American Gun Owners Alliance so other than some antis might want to twist this piece of information into something sinister sounding (like the referenced article did) what's the point of bringing it up in an alarmist manner tarring the NRA with the anti's brush instead of alerting all of us of the article as an attack on the NRA?

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm an NRA member. I'm actually wearing the hat right now.

I'm not worried about their list, or their agenda. I pay to be on that list, and to promote their agenda.

And, I don't care who knows it. Everyone who walks into my store knows it.

Because I'm wearing the hat.

David,

That's remarkably naive that you'd think the NSA(FBI, DOJ, etc.) would need to hack into NRA's marketing database files when that information is just as easily acquired in the same manner the NRA acquires it. It also implies that you think the NSA would when they don't have the international terror cover for it. OTOH, the FBI or DOJ might want to take a run at it. Better brush up on your alphabet soup agencies and their roles.

Every begging letter/phone call we receive is due to some public/private information exchange tagging each of us as a probable source of money/participation. Cold calls are rare these days because they're a poor use of limited resources compared to focused contacts.

I doubt anyone is worried about the NRA.

I think the fear is that in the future, if the gov't passes a gun registration bill, not unfathomable, the gov't just might want to subpoena their list.

They could also do it for "national security", then an NSA court could do it without having to tell anyone. The NRA could also be held to secrecy and ordered not to reveal the subpoena. Which is exactly what they've done in the past with Google, phone companies, etc.

Not saying it's going to happen, but I hope no one thinks it's impossible.
