Just curious how the NYPD installs and 11 1/2 pound trigger on all their weapons specifically the sig? Do they just use a heavier mainspring or is there some other component?

NYPD officers can choose the Glock 19 with NY-2 trigger, the Sig 226 DAO, or the S&W 5946. All three will have an approximately 12 pound trigger pull. Almost everyone carries the Glock but some officers prefer the hammer guns.

I'm sorry I can't answer your exact question. All I know about our P226 (and the Glocks & S&W ((which isn't issued anymore, last class was either July '13 or Jan '14)) is that the triggers are 12 lbs plus and DAO. As you can see our Sigs do not have a decocker or extern safety.

I've carried this gun for over 3 years and have fired approx 5000 rounds through it, no major malfunctions that I can recall. I am by no means a marksmen and do not claim to be, but even with the trigger I can get decent groups at center mass at 25 yards, granted that is at the range with no stress, never fired my service weapon other than practicing.

If there is anything else you would like to know, feel free to ask.

As an interesting sidenote, I purchased an LE trade-in Glock 19 in few years back that came with the NY1 trigger spring installed. In actuality, it wasn't a terrible trigger. It broke at about 8-9 lbs., but otherwise felt just like any other broken-in Glock trigger.

Of course, I replaced it with a regular 5.5 lb. trigger spring, but the change was not drastic at all.

I don't have any experience with the NY2 trigger, but at 12 lbs. in such a lightweight gun, I could see where it could be borderline dangerous if it kept you from being able to put shots on target.

I got one of the P226 DAO models a few years ago. The trigger was about 10#.

With about a handful of parts from Numerich, I have converted it to DA/SA with trigger pull of (still) 10# DA and 5# SA.
