After seeing several discussions on the topic, I would like to get a consensus of those that carry and how they carry, and lastly the implications.

Recently a poster reported that some OC "activists" carried thier pistol into several establishments in 2 communities, with the outcome, again according to the poster, with one of the communities having an emergency vote which turned into a full ban. The other community council is now voting on the measure, which could also pass.

I truly respect and appreciate the passion for the "OC everywhere" group. I appreciate the dedication. I do hope the OC activities DO NOT limit my ability to CC in my home state of Texas. With a CC, I do believe I am excecising my right to bear arms.

I do believe some type of agreement can be had, maybe OC in rural areas, and CCW in the city.

For me personally, I have seen a bit of hysteria from folks that have found out that I CC. I have seen a recent poll that had a percentage that voted that " No one seems to notice or mind that I'm openly carrying a handgun"

I believe that some of the people that observe, the VOTING public, actually do care greatly about the topic

I fully believe in most cities in the USA, that most people DO or would care if you are openly armed. Especially if your arent a LEO.

So...... I have been lumped in with the anti's, by a few ....... but I am fully happy with the current State of Texas rules on carry....

I worry with just a 5-4 pro gun majority (think end zone catch) in the supreme court, ANYTHING could happen. If one of the 5, were to need to be replaced, we could have issues overall. - Yes....it can happen.

So here is my poll.

Where exactly would "urban" and "rural" meet? We already have too many laws based on subjective BS without adding another. I don't care to OC, but I sure won't tell someone they can't - regardless of where they live.

I decide what is appropriate where. Just like everyone else should. Open-carrying to "assert my rights" is something I measure carefully. That said, I live in the sticks and still CC far more often than OC. It's a habit I guess.

I voted for OC everywhere but I truly believe that you should be able to both OC and CC everywhere. But personally I CC most everywhere and only OC while hiking, canoeing, and generally "out in the country."

I don't think OC is the best idea, it singles you out, also it should be mentioned I'm from a state that disallows OC. But I like to OC in the woods or on my land or at friends' houses with land or ranges and such, BBQ and other parties I think are fine as well. But for daily routine usage I much prefer CC, element of surprise/upper hand, treated like an average joe.

Well stated. Generally, I'm not for OC in heavily populated areas (cities or towns.) I guess it's up to that locality to decide, though. Concealed carry is fine...even desirable in higher crime areas.

+1 to OC and CC everywhere, anytime

We have a winner!

Regardless of perceived advantages/disadvantages of exposed or concealed carry, it is the individual's choice to make, not the government's.

Exactly.

Respectfully, the last I checked, a person does not need to pay for the government's permission to engage in a behavior that is a right. You are truly happy to require people to pay for the government's permission to carry a gun?!??

Respectfully, being happy with denying people's right to carry a gun by requiring them to pay the government for permission is anti-2A. Requiring a person to pay a fee to obtain government's permission to carry a gun IS infringement upon that right.

In Washington state, open carry is recognized as the right of the person to carry a gun (except in a vehicle). Concealed carry is recognized as a licensed privilege. Since I have paid my fee to the government in order to carry concealed, I exercise my right to open carry about 95% of the time, including downtown Seattle, and conceal carry when I choose to.

The implications have been that about 95% of the time nobody notices or cares. The remaining 4.5% when I do have interractions because of the gun they are positive and educational. About .5% of the time I get negative reactions....and that's their problem, not mine. I don't care if they call 911 and the police do show up. I know I am not engaging in any behavior that can be suspect of committing a crime, therefore the Washington State Constitution allows me to refuse to interract with the police. If the police don't recognize that, that's fine, they can be educated by a judge when they go to court.

I am not a big fan of open carry...

However, if you want to, go for it. I just don't want that kind of attention drawn towards me. I do open carry at my camp because it is my property and there are snakes and dogs around. Besides, it scares the nosy neighbors...chris3
