OK, Tell the Truth! Do You Carry a .32 Revolver for CCW ?

In the hot and humid environment around here, wearing a long shirt untucked is about the equivalent of wandering around in a vest or with a fanny pack all the time.

Sounds right, but the inevitable citing of the exception doesn't belie the point. Dressing to conceal the more serious weapon almost always means being less comfortable than you would like to be. Scaling of the weapon for concealment may mean that it is a nasty little sucker to shoot without downgrading the ammo with the size.

Back on topic, I think the 327 Federal Magnum solves more problems in concealment than originally allowed, most models now defunct. My SP101 in 327 Federal Magnum is a superb concealment weapon in many respects. Those hung up on what the caliber is not are missing the boat.

And for you that is ok. For me it is not. All that means is that you are willing to sacrifice comfort now in return for (perhaps) being slightly more prepared for an event that may or may not happen sometime in the future. Nothing wrong with that if it makes you feel better and happier. It does neither for me.

We can carry what we like but cannot insist upon affirmation from others.

The little 32s in today's terms are girls guns and are even offered in choice of girlie colors. Cartridges like the 32 H&R Magnum and 327 Federal Magnum may be the same or close in diameter but are in comparison are as if handgun versus rifle...more bullet, more powder, more gun.

32 H&R magnum and 327 magnum are not like the other 32 calibers.

I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying 32SW short, 32SW long, or 32acp for SD (though I do have some for plinking).

I would prefer one of my 44 or 38 snubbies, but if I somehow ended up with one of my 32 H&R snubbies in my pocket instead, I would be okay with it.

Actually not very much in the way of smaller-then-S&W-J-frames chambered for (whatever) .32 cartridges are available in today's new-gun market.

But ammunition sales are surprisingly strong, this suggests a lot of older revolvers as well as pistols are still in wide use. Part of the decline in new pistols can be credited to the fact that most of them after World War Two were imported from Europe, and they were effectively stopped by the 1968 GCA.

Regarding the comment about "girl guns," I don't believe that any handguns are necessarily gender specific, color not withstanding. However the ladies ah... well... physical shape makes it harder to carry some larger models well concealed. Understandably some of them turn to smaller handguns that are chambered to use less formidable cartridges.

I presume that you would insist that the correct way to go would be to carry a larger/more powerful gun regardless, but I know some members of fair sex that would tell you where to go in uncertain terms. One is a retired deputy sheriff from Harris County (Houston) Texas who knows what gun smoke smells like. :uhoh: :D

I think you're both saying the same thing ("I carry what I like. Don't ask me to justify it, 'cause I won't , and don't ask me again").

Correct ?
Can't speak for Real, but I was explaining my reasoning for preferring small handguns/cartridges at times in case it might be useful information to someone. I am not seeking justification nor trying to provide it, but apparently he thinks I am. I am comfortable with my choices. I believe there is a strong place for such arms in defense, apparently he believes that they should not exist lest someone be tempted to use less than meets his approval.

I didn't ask anyone to justify anything. Saying otherwise is to project from an inference that is not my responsibility. It seems a case of taking something on that isn't there.

Reductio ad absurdum. I have not proposed that I have any power over what anyone does. If I think the culture is to glorify being under gunned, I will say so, thank you. I do not have the power to approve anything with any effect, but I do have the power to withhold affirmation.

I have been known to carry a smith & wesson 431PD in 32 mag and an S&W model 30-1 in 32 long. I handload all my ammo for them. The 32 mag gets around 1000fps and the long gets 850fps from a 2" barrel. I feel very well armed inspite of what some here would like you to believe.

The mag is loaded with 85gr hollow points and the long with 94gr lead bullets. Both are accurate for snubby guns. I can hit a one gallon paint can at 50 yards every shot.

Seriously, with all the bad press the .38Special gets I can't see carrying a lesser gun.
I have two 38Special revolvers and trust them unquestionably but when the situation dictates I carry something smaller, I carry a Beretta 21A .22LR. I think I trust the erratic bounces and deflections a .22LR makes inside a body cavity to the heavier and much slower .32 revolver. It goes in and stops in most cases and there's no chance of "interior richoet" and the possibility of more incapacitating damage the .22 may do...
I am not a huge proponent of the .22 but it's the smallest almost "Pratical" gun. Cheap to pratice with and you can group multiple shots pretty well. It's a very low powered round though.
No not a .32.
I feel much safer with my .38Chief!

Me too. I usually carry a S&W Model 638 .38 Spl.
Sometimes a KelTec P-32 (.32ACP).
I have an H&R .32 S&W that I hardly ever carry. If I do, it is backup only.
Also have a Colt Pocket Positive .32 Long Colt that I never carry.
I'd rather carry my Taurus PT-22 (.22LR).
Now if I had a .32 H&R Magnum or a .32-20, I'd feel very secure.
Does 7.62mm Russian Nagant count as a .32? If so, same as above, good to go.

Hey, I like that belt support rig ! Where'd you get it ?
That's exactly what I need to keep my pants up while carrying.
Seriously, I've been looking something like that.

hehehe yea I need em. if they were not there my pants pop off like a seed out of a grape.
No butt, no hips, big gut, Wacha gona do???

These are Dickies from Walmart. Cant leave home with out em.

Another CCW.

And another that I don't carry but found its way to me...

Clearly modded to be very C-CW.

Functions well if lookin' like pooh.

Yes, I most often carry a 3" Ruger SP101 .327 Fed. mag. It conceals well enough for me. Plus, I'll admit I like the way it looks. The fact that I shoot it pretty well doesn't hurt either.

For a while I carried a Basque made French Ruby .32

Mine was a nicely made gun, I massaged and tuned the action, gave it a stronger mainspring, and it handled the 75 grain Buffalo Bore hard cast flat nose nicely, averaging about 1,000 fps out of it's 4" barrel. Magazine capacity was 9 rounds.

Not my gun, but comparable

Holy cow, I missed the word REVOLVER that was in the title.

I feel like my Charter 32 H&R mag snub has plenty of power for self defense. I actually prefer it to a 38 or 9mm because I can control it better.
