anybody out there own, collect or have shot a mauser C-96?
or more commonly called the broomhandle?

a very nice gun shop around my locale has several (antique and modern firearms, i reccomend checking them out if you live in central kentucky)

i wouldnt mind bringing 1 or 2 of them home with me. maybe a 9x19mm for shooting and the origional 7.62x25mm for a wall-hander...

i could imiagine 7.62x25mm mauser ammo is quite expensive:banghead:

Careful with ammo, Ice. I'll wager you already know, but you can't safely use 7.62x25 in a 7.63 Mauser.

7.63 Mauser is still eminently available, and not too expensive at all.

yep dude your wager was correct, i know that already.

czech mfg 7.62x25mm ammo is loaded ALOT hotter than 7.62 mauser (7.63 mauser) whichever you prefer.

kinda like the 8x75mm mauser and 7.92x57mm mauser, same round diffrent name.

that really aint a bad price for ammo either, .45acp is like what about 15 or 16 bucks a box?

im just wondering if one of these ol war dogs would hold up to shooting (mild FMJ) ammo, like i said i was wanting to get one in 9mm to shoot, would using commerical standard velocity 115 grain FMJ rounds cause any adverse wear and tear?

A very good friend of mine let me shoot a mauser, beautiful little hand cannon. built my love for 7.62x25 range ammo.

well the general recomendation for shooting mausers of that age is,

put a new barrel and barrel retaining wedge, then shoot. That wedge apparently likes to die, and loosing the original one with correct serial number hurts gun value. and new barrel preserves original barrel and lets you shoot all you want.

personally id love one in either caliber. just way out of my range that i can see.
