I just sent my 642 to the factory and I'm using a 70 year old CZ-27 as a pocket pistol in the meantime. It's only .32 ACP, but it's very accurate, reliable, and holds 8+1.

What's the oldest gun you guys have carried? (I'm talking about individual specimens here, not designs. If designs counted, everyone would say "1911." :p ;) )

My April 1930 Heavy Duty. 38 Special loaded with some high speed +p rounds. I was not even remotely concerned about it. I guess that would be about a 75 year old carry gun.

My Sig P226 was made in 1989.

I used to own a CZ-52 and a Colt Official Police .38, but I never carried either for self-defense.

Nickelled Colt SAA BP .45 Colt in the 68,XXX range (1882). Escorted and delivered some prisoners circa 1976 or so. The jailers were fairly impressed when I checked the gun in at the jail.

The gun and I are now retired from that sort of thing.

Both of us still retain some useful abilities, though...

Oldest one I have carried is a Colt 1908 .380 ACP. SN 333XZ, made in 1913, my Dad carried it during WWI(RCN) and WWII (USN), and between the wars as a Merchant Marine Officer. It was sent to the factory for reblue in 75, they did a great job(it needed it). Is still one of the slimmer 380s around, and dead bang reliable. Sights are kind of rudimentary, later models of the gun had passable sights, maybe some day.......

Dienekes,

Got you beat by one year (LOL). Back when I was serious into the Cowboy Action Shooting and writing about black powder cartridge guns, I had several occasions when the only gun I had with me was an 1881 vintage SAA 4.75" barrel chambered in 45 Colt. It was loaded with a duplicate of the original 45 Colt factory load (40g FFg and a 255 lead bullet) which chornographed out of the short barreled SAA at 865 fps. That same load produces 910 fps from a 7.5" barrel, hence the nickname "Peacemaker".

My wife had my carry piece while she was out of town...

And my Kahr K9 was in the shop for a repair, so I packed my M1912 Steyr-Hahn for a while, with a couple stripper clips of extra 9mm Steyr in my pocket.

No idea how old

My Grand dad gave me a revolver to carry when there was a little trouble around home a very long time ago. Old colt with birds head grips and 3 or 3 1/2 inch barrel. Chambered in 44-40. Wipe it down now and again, but haven't shot it since he passed away. Black powder handloads, too. He was insistant about that.

RemingtonM51 from the '20s. Still one of the finest pistols of it's class.
