Wow, nearly as many opinions as posters. I like the 4" .357mag American manufactured idea, but there's only been one (!) SW 610 mentioned. While I appreciate his viewpoint, I'd prefer the 5" original offering. Just think, one can utilize, in easy to load/unload moon clips, loads ranging from .40S&W rounds to full bore 10MM! Ya just gotta love it!

My 2 Cents

M629 Classic 5". I have a number of good handloads in various bullet weights/designs and power levels worked up for this gun (actually, it's my son's, left in my care while he's touring the world with the USMC), that makes it about as versatile as any one gun can be. For small game, there's a very accurate load with 200 gr. CSWC at around 750 fps. For PD duties, a 185 JHP at not quite 1100 fps is easy to control in rapid fire. For deer-size food, I use my pet load featuring a 270 gr, Speer Gold Dot that's close to 1300 fps. Barrel length isn't bad for hunting out to 60-70 yards, and still short enough for quick handling. I know, it wouldn't be the easiest gun to conceal, but since I live in Wisconsin:cuss: , it doesn't appear I'll be getting a CCW license anytime soon:fire:

Dan Wesson VH44. With 4",6",8" and 10" barrels and some optics you could shoot IDPA,IHMSA,ICORE, and go hunting and do them all well. Load some LBT's for the big stuff, some 240 HP's for GP use and some 210 gr ST's for carry and you'd be set.

Best Gun?

The best is the weapon that fits your hand, meets the need, and has durability for your specific use.

I have a NIB .44SPL Charter Bull Dog that I will trade with someone who would offer a SS 3" or similar S&W Mod 696. I like both these models but am partial to the Smith.

But overall I guess I would pick the S&W Mod 29 4" .44Mag. Both the .44Mag and .44Spl can be used. It packs well for CCW and it is an excellent weapon for duty carry too. Unless you want a lot of rounds and I would have to say the Mod 59 in 9mm, 40mm.

Like I said in line 1.....ditto

Have a good day and keep your hands tightly fisted.

6" 29-2... it's my nicest revolver, and the most versatile. After all, I can keep my bottom feeders, right?

Smith model 65 or 66 if funds are a concern. Smith model 686 if funds are handy.

1st post. I suggest S&W new model 3. 44-40 ammo still available. built before 1898 so not technically a firearm, if you have to fly you can just mail it to yourself at your destination. strong enough for most game. strong enough for my great grampa to use as a marshall and prohibition officer. strong enough to pass on to my son.
