Online Hunting

The reason I was building one was a continuation of my efforts to reduce damage from hogs.

I first built a trail camera but it only told me what had been there. I then built a bunch of game radios like the one below. When an animal trips the IR sensor it powers up the keyed radio and plays the recording on the digital voice recorder. So you could be at the cabin cooking and a radio announces "down by the old pond" for example. You drive within a 1/4 mile or so and sneak up on them.
Hunting them remotely was just a natural progression.

How about looking at it in a different light, what is the difference in setting a trap and taking off?

I don't get it, maybe we should look at banning cars capable of traveling a mile at high velocity?

How about simply, abide by the basic laws of gun safety.

Safety concerns seem like the big problem most people have with this, other than just the laziness of not going into the woods. I am guessing ya'll are not in favor of a law mandating people not be lazy so I assume it is the safety issue. I know I am going to get crucified, but isn't it already against the law to shoot someone? I really don't think outlawing every possible way someone could hurt someone else is the right way to go. Just because someone is setting up to shoot remotely does not, imo at least, relieve them of the responsibility if they shoot someone.

*shrug* I think this is a non-issue.

I would think they would do something like ban all shooting at night if they were looking at safety. Not to mention some of us own enough land our projectiles couldn't leave our property if we shot 45 deg in the air.

My guess is that its not "sporting" enough for some people. They would rather poison varmits than shoot them, go figure.

Thats fine but when you aren't the one pulling the trigger? Perhaps the internet user can't see the individual just out of view, moving quickly into the line of fire? Maybe the system is hacked and fired by a third party? Hunting is dangerous, but the rules of safety are able to be followed when you are in complete control of the firearm. How do you know that the firearm is actually pointed in the direction shown on your screen? When you are 'hunting' over the internet you are in control of the mouse and keyboard.

Good or bad most people in today's world have, had or will put their life "in the hands" of a computer millions of people do everyday. You also would be the one "pulling the trigger" in as much as a pilot has control of a 747, "fly by wire"

With the exception of small arms, grenades and a few others most weapons are computer controlled these days too.

Fix the field of view, mount limit switches to limit articulation out of the "safe to shoot" zone, have the camera view through the optic, and redundant safeties were a few of ideas I had for safety.

Implement those ideas an it would be safer than a person there holding the gun. Unless you had it chained at the muzzle to limit movement and a combination lock on the safety.

I get that there could be 'safe' was of doing it. And I know being in the field isn't always the safest.

For me, I woouldn't want to be a part of it. I'm ok with it being banned in ND. Good Luck with your setup.
