Yeah sure, why not. Got a pat on the back last time I OC'ed.
I still can't get behind this. When you try to force reality on the general public they will freak. Weather you like it or not, walking around in a grocery store or gas station with an exposed gun and no badge you will scare some people. There are good and bad ways to fight for our rights.
@chupacabrah,
In my class materials places serving alcohol are listed as "no firearms" rather than "no concealed handguns".
I'm working on a set of letters to send to all my elected officials and to my local papers promoting the "anywhere the permit holder is legally permitted to be" line. But they aren't ready yet.
Letter writing is something I do have the right mentality to do.
ANSWER
I can’t speak for any individual officers or other agencies, the law does give you the opportunity to carry a firearm non-concealed, however the statute listed below is very vague and can be interpreted a million different ways. It would be my suggestion to attend the class for concealed weapons and apply for a concealed weapons permit. I would be very cautious about telling anyone to carry a weapon open in the public.
This was taken from NCGS. By common law in North Carolina, it is unlawful for a person to arm himself with any unusual and dangerous weapon, for the purpose of terrifying others, and go about on public highways in a manner to cause terror to others.
The N.C. Supreme Court has said that any gun is an unusual and dangerous weapon for purposes of this offense. Therefore persons are cautioned as to the areas they frequent with firearms.

Interesting...
Though, we're NOT arming ourselves with our dangerous weapons for the purpose of terrifying others...right?
