Open carry question

FWIW, I do sometimes open carry my Ruger GP100 in a nice OWB leather holster from Simply Rugged

Most of the surrounding areas in this part of Colorado allow open carry.
I usually carry concealed, with a permit, but have on occasion carried openly. But that's usually when I'm headed outside of mainstream population to camp and fish.

LOL, the picture in the wikipedia description of "open carry" was taken in my town.

Wiki says that the Brady Campaign and The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence strongly oppose OC. That's enough for me.

:D Good enough for me too.

I routinely OC a revolver with a nice leather holster and speed loader holder. The ladies dig it.

I will say that the one thing I find curious, and a bit disturbing, is that there are a number of folks who are strong proponents of concealed carry who are ardently opposed to open carry. With some, it's almost as though you might be reading or conversing with anti's.

As far as I'm concerned, I fully celebrate and support both modes of carry. We are all in this together and when there is derision among our ranks it only serves as fodder for the anti's.

So please people, carry as you will and support CC'ers and OC'ers. The only important thing is to carry.

Virginia has open carry, but I rarely OC. When I have, only a small fraction of the people I've encountered even seemed to notice. Maybe I look like I should be carrying a gun, so they just think, "OK, I guess he's a cop or something."
This is pretty much my experience with OC.
I pretty much OC by default. When the weather gets warmer, I'm usually in OC mode.

Washington state is theoretically OC but if some LEO's spot it or they get a call from a concerned citizen, people have been known to be charged with "Brandishing."

Open carry is lawful in Washington State. Because it is lawful, the police cannot charge you for anything. Further, the police cannot stop you or demand ID if you're openly carrying, period. There is no such thing as brandishing in the Washington RCWs.

Problem is, an LEO with bad information will still cuff you and disrupt your day until things get sorted out. This was a big problem in VA for years.

Open Carry might be alright in States where it's been done for awhile and it has become commonplace.
Here in PA in light of the recent happenings, I personally don't think reprecussions steming from Open Carry are needed.
Pa has been an OC state for many years. I've never had a problem with open carry in S.E. Pa.
While it's not widely practiced around me, I know guys in other parts of the state that have open carried for 15-20yrs. In light of recent events, I think it's more important than ever to exercise the right to OC.
We periodically hold OC dinners in various restaurants around the area.

Not likely anymore. Our court judges have made it known that mere open carry isn't sufficient to detain a person. I also know someone who was detained for ~20 mins who took home some serious scratch for an improper seizure by a police agency. For the amount of that settlement, they can cuff me all day.

Really? Which part? During what years?

Open carry is still rare enough that I doubt it has been a serious problem anywhere.

A few unlawful arrests in a handful of states over the last couple of decades does not constitute a problem.

Maine

Maine is an open carry state.
Down in Southern Maine near Portland you may raise an eyebrow or two, but north of Augusta no one would look twice.
When you get a little further north, its almost the norm.

God bless America, or whats left of it.

Here in MT, there are few restrictions on open carry. You see it mostly out of town, mainly people out hunting or fishing, working on farms and ranches, etc. There are a few people who OC in town, but not many. I often OC, usually when engaged in outdoors activities. Just buckle the gunbelt and gun on at home and head out, haven't had any trouble at all.

I don't run around trying to draw attention to myself. I just don't make a big deal out of it and generally no one else does either.
