Opinions please: Highest quality bulk .22lr ammo?

Another vote for CCI here though I must admit that with the exception of my Kimber 22 Conversion all of my 22s will eat any bulk ammo. CCI most consistently goes bang while the other bulk stuff has more duds.

Don't quite get your "regionalization" critique of Remington ammo. I'm under the impression its all made in the same place, Loanoak Arkansas. >MW

I certainly don't know that's the case. I just know the stuff I've bought from them couldn't possibly ever be good in any firearm. One round would barely clear the end of the barrel and the next would fire at what seemed like Mach 3. Then there were the duds. Any ammo with a wide variation in power levels can't be accurate at more than 20 yards. That's about how far some of my Remington ammo made it before it hit the ground. I'm serious.

Then there's the incredible crud the stuff produces. I have a single shot Stevens rifle I ended up shooting about 200 rounds of that Remington through. It got so gummed up the bolt wouldn't work. I owned that rifle for about 30 years without that happening but it happened twice when I was shooting that Remington stuff. It was horribly, horribly dirty. I never saw anything like it.

As bad as the ammo was I bought from them a lot of people swear by it. Most people swear at it. I couldn't think of any other reason except maybe they didn't sell the same ammo everywhere.

BTW just because it comes from the same factory it doesn't mean it's the same grade of ammo. They can weigh it and put all the stuff that's out of the weight range in a separate box. That would explain the differences in power. And they could mix up different batches of powder with some being far dirtier than the rest. I've worked in factories. They make many levels of quality for some products. Ammo is one of those products. Shipping the good stuff to one part of the country and the bad stuff to another part of the country wouldn't be that hard or that unusual.

Whatever the case I'm shocked that anyone thinks it's good ammo. I assume they know what they see. Something must explain that. I know for a fact that it was absolute the worst ammo I ever bought by leaps and bounds. Nothing has ever come close to being that bad and I've been buying ammo for almost 50 years.

I was a Remington basher for a long time, but when I had a chance to buy a 500 round box at an only slightly outrageous price recently I jumped on it, and it's been fine. I don't know whether it's gotten better or I've gotten less picky! That said, I find the bullet construction makes a bigger difference than the brand -- both my semi auto pistol and rifle definitely cycle better with 40gr round nose than with hollow point.

sent using CPIP (see RFC 1149)

Back in the 1990s i had my first rimfire pistol a Ruger Mk2 with bull barrel. It shoots well with Remington Golden Bullet bulk box . Its dirty but feeds perfect and my groups are tighter. The Federal wasnt as accurate. I get the Remington for $6 for a box of 550 rds and spent my whole day at a friend's farm plinking in a pond.

The Remington GB will not feed well in my Walther G22 semi auto . That goes too with the Ruger 10/22 . So i only use them with my Ruger Mk2 pistol and Marlin 880 SQ bolt rimfire. One thing i hate was the ammonia like smell after shooting it.

Today, i would go for the Winchester Super X if i can find them either in 100 rd , 333 or 500 rd box. NOw the one i really like with consistent outcome is the Remington Target which are hard to come by.

Best all around for me so far has been CCI Blazer. Haven't seen any in 6 months so I've made do with just about everything else.
Of those Rem. GB has been the most accurate but had one round so damaged it wouldn't chamber an one FTFeed in my Ruger today. That gun has never had a FTFeed that I can remember. I remember that is use to get that gold dust on my finger tips. Not this time.
Frankly, after all the different piecemeal loads tried recently I'd say they are all pretty darn good. I've zero issues with any of them save the GBs today.

I doubt CCI will be making any Blazer until their more expensive stuff begins to catch up with demand. My thought is ... unless they have a hard order (say a big box store), why manufacture something that sells for less?

I'm having good luck with Remington Golden Bullet. This brand generates a lot of intense dislike on the internet but it is the best bulk 22lr in MY firearms.
That's me as well. I've had the worst luck with the Federal 550s, though I've heard the 525s in the different color box are better. I've also not had an issue with Winchesters.

CCI Standard Velocity. It works very well in all my rifles except GSG-5 and 15-22 in wintertime (the wax accumulates and gets stiff). Accurate, cheap, subsonic from long barrel - what is there not to like?
