I was wondering if anyone here knows exactly what Bill O'Reilly's stance is on guns. I have read a number of biographies that said he is "liberal on the gun issue" and "pro gun-control". However, I have never heard him say anything about the issue, so I don't know exactly what that means. Can anybody help clue me in?

If i remember correctly he is centerist. He thinks you have the right to have them but (I think, don't quote me here) isn't agianst registration and licensing.

Once he figures out which opinion will get him the highest ratings, I'm sure he'll embrace it, proclaim it, and condemn those with the audacity to oppose it.

Well, he said this about his argument with Al Franken on C-Span in 2003.

Bill O'Reilly said:
"See, in the Old West -- and I would have loved to have been in the Old West -- Al and I would have just had a little -- a little shootout, you know? We would have went out on Wilshire Avenue, and six-shooters. Now, he's a much smaller target than I am -- about four-foot-eleven, but he's wider. And it would have been, you know, Clint Eastwood time. I would have had the serape, would have given my squint, and I would have put a bullet right between his head.

"Would have been wrong, would have been wrong. But it was the Old West, and I would not have known any better. So I wouldn't have been accountable because I would not have known any better. Now I do. Now, in 2003, that would have been wrong."

He isn't anti-gun.

I don't think the man knows very much about the RKBA, gun laws or the issue as a whole. I say this because his statements and positions are all over the place. It isn't a "centerist" position, but rather a "confused" position of someone who pays little attention to it all. This is very common, just talk about gun issues with average joe American...

The New Orleans disaster did have an effect on him. He said many times thereafter that people need a means to defend themselves and that gun ownership is the key.

So maybe it is sinking in...

I remember a show in which O'Reilly expressed support for the AWB because he saw no reason for people to have bazookas.

I remember that. lol.

He's clueless, and as the other member posted, he goes with the position that earns him ratings, but with the gun issues, I truly think he doesn't know very much. Ignorance doesn't qualify as anti-gun necessarily.

NOLA made an impression on him, and afterwards, he was saying "this is why the Second Amendment can never again be doubted." He does stand on the side of personal firearms ownership, but at the same time, I do not believe that he has ever gone out of his way to rally support to remove infringements upon that amendment.

Yeah, I remember a few months ago he was debating some woman on victim disarmament laws and how the government can't always be there to hold your hand, and he mentioned hurricane Katrina and at the very end of the episode said "Get a rifle."

Who cares what a worthless sack of wind like O'reilly thinks. The man is the biggest creep and two faced liar I have ever seen on TV. I once read about him get verbally abusive with a female reporter because she presented him with his voter registration where he registered as a republican after he swore he registered independant. That shows what kind of guy he is right there.

And then quickly added:

"In the home! Only in the home!"

Don't look for Bloviating Bill to rally to the cause. He put his own spin on that
"No-Spin" debate. In other words: I don't mind too much if you have a RIFLE...as long as you keep it locked away on your property just in case of emergency.

Sorry. Got no patience with mugwumps.

The guy is a degenerate perv that had to settle a lawsuit out of court with his producer because he was making obscene phone calls to her. I'm guessing a tape of his shenanigans exists, which was why he paid some hush money to quiet things down.

If you ever listen to his radio show, and hear the way he interacts with either of his giggle girl sidekicks, you can hear what a sexually deprived creep he is. Not only that, he has no spine and changes his opinions whichever way the wind is blowing.

On the gun issue he did make some pro-gun statements after Katrina, but he is such a waffler he could change his position tomorrow if the political wind shifted.

Other than that, I think he's just swell.

I remember him saying the AWB should not expire because no on needs an assault weapon.

Arrogant and imperious, he is.

I remember when the Factor first came out. I was drawn to watch this show every night. I started to really like Bill. He didnt take much crap and wasnt affraid to say certain things(compared to smilar person). He knew where he standed on issues and stuck with it but in the last 2 years or so things have changed. I dont know what has caused this. He always had other members of the media and Hollywood - constantly bashing him and testing him and he usually would come out on top. I think ever since his little phone sex fiasco things have changed. People are now able get under his skin and defeat him on a normal basis. His firm stand on things are becoming flabby. He is no longer untouchable. Its like he came out telling himself here is where Im gonna "SAY" I stand on certain things and nothing can change that. Im Bill O. I live my life doing the right thing. I do not sin. Then these little things started to come out contradicting what he ahs always said and then the phone sex thing. Now he is a joke. You have to give it to him though he haad a damn good run BSing alot of people!

I see him as the small-minded equivalent of a flamewar blogger. He only talks trash because he's safe behind the screen.

In reality, he's just a blowhard "little man" who will say whatever he thinks will get ratings and infuriate people to be controversial.

Someone said, and I agree, that watching any of the ill-informed loud-as-possible pundit shows is about as informative as watching a dog relieve itself to music.

Bill OReilly said:
You guys are fringe. I support the right to hunt and defend yourself but, you guys that think you need an AK-47 are fringe! I support the renewal of assault weapons...you know...bazookas and machineguns and AK-47's. Who needs an AK-47 to shoot a deer?

I'll stick to Michael Savage. Once in a great while he mentions his AR-15. Not too long ago he said something to the effect that "everytime I hear someone is in the civil rights business I load another clip for my AR-15". :D

I love the way Savage constantly badgers O'Reilly on his radio show, calling him "the Leprechaun". :D
