Is there any objective information available that shows Hi-Points to be crap? Other than the obvious low price, fit and finish, etc. I have read on this forum that they operate just fine.

ANybody perform a torture test on these babies? If not, then I will. I am seriously interested in determining whether or not these are viable "stockpile" guns.

I've fired the 9mm compact

While Hi-Points will probably never compete with S&W, HK, Remington, etc., a friend in MD(Chaim)has mainly good things to say about his carbine: if it were legal in this state(CA), I'd buy one in Camo for grins and just to freak out the local gun snobs:evil: . According to OWNERS(not rumour-mongers)the brand has a very good reliability record....except for the Hi-Point handgun that, myth says, suffered a premature burial in the Arizona desert.

Step up to Hi Point and let your dreams come true!!!

Maybe the kind of dreams Stephen King has....

LMAO
Well, I was going to post something along those lines, but I don't think I could top that.

As I've said before, once Hi-Point introduces their .45acp (or even .40S&W) carbine, they'll get to my wallet, but until then... I still have my Davis Industries P380.

I think the pistols require a strip clean every 2,000 rounds. Otherwise, the instructions state to lock the bolt back and clean the barrel in the interim.

I got one for my father and it seems like a real good unit for the money. He has not shot it much, but the sights are adjustible, it breaks dow with two push pins, seems similar to the Ruger 10/22 action.

Nobody have torture test results?

I'm curious too. If you do a torture test on one of these, Please let us all know about it.

There was a guy at the range trying to shoot one one day. It was a 9mm carbine. The gun was jamming on every other shot. We were the only two there so I wandered over to talk to him thinking I could assist him in trouble shooting it. My first question was "having problems"? He acknowledged that and claimed it was his dad's gun, said was trying to develop some handloads for it. I told him I was a handloader too and that the gun was "not a bad looking gun". Then I asked him "is that a HiPoint?" and "I've not seen one of those before". He acknowledged that. Then I made the mistake of asking him if they were inexpensive. He got embarassed and clammed up kind of unfriendly like. Guess he thought I was going to criticize him  His look made it obvious that the conversation was over so I just told him good luck and went back to my own bench.

I do have a carbine and had some FTF problems early on. I lightened the oil and shot the heck out of it. I consider this a live fire fluff and buff :D . No more problems.

It is a straight blow-back design, as are the pistolas. Light loads may be a problem. The bolt is relatively stiff.

It is a hoot to shoot. I got it for the boy to practice with peep sights and longarms (not quite ready for the FAL). The laser sight also works well. It does shot to point of aim out of the box. We were shooting aluminum cans at 100 yds.

Thanks, pauli. I didn't know they made their carbine in .40S&W. I guess now I have to warm up to it a bit.

From the Hi-Point Catalog:

Nice selection...

For the price of a Hi-Point, you can get a CZ-52 (~$100), Star BM (~$150) or a Makarov (~$150). All steel and much better guns. Don't buy cheap new guns when you can get good used surplus guns for the same amount of money.

I did have a Hi-Point carbine 9mm once but I sold it before I shot it. I can't say for sure that Hi-Points are not as good as Maks, etc but I would be willing to bet that Mak or one of the other guns I listed would be easier to carry.

i like the 995 carbine, never had a problem of any kind, accurate enough for me

Try running some Hirtenberger through a Star BM-see what the emergency room looks at first, your hand or your face!
Hi-Point RULES !!!
+P+ RULES !!!
I own 3 CZ-52's so i obviously like them a lot.Practical everyday guns they are not, regardless of how well made they are.
