@Oldskoolfan

Yes, but I'm sure that even the founding fathers would want someone in possession of deadly force to have all of his/her faculties. We've seen what depression makes people do, can you imagine what a paranoid schizophrenic would do with firearms? I'm all for people having guns for defense of themselves and their other 9 inherent rights, but I don't want someone with a couple screws loose or a few marbles missing to be able to have weaponry, as the risk is significantly higher of something happening.

Or are you suggesting that if such an individual does snap/break/ect, that a CC will put the individual down before he does much damage?

yep, if you want the permit, you only have one choice, look for a different doctor. IF you know anyone that belongs to a gun club, you might ask them to ask around to see if any doctors belong to that club, and if so, make an apointment. doctor shopping really sucks, because it is like forrest gumps box of chocolates. you never know what you are going to get. there really aught to be a better way to screen doctors. they know who is good, who is a quack, and who has inclinations one way or another. but for us patients, all you get is a name in a phone book, with absoloutly no way what you are going to get. you wouldnt go into a meat market and ask for 30 pounds of meat, without knowing if you were going to get 30 pounds of pig snout, or 30 pounds of filet mingon would you? so why do we HAVE to do that with doctors?

Actually you can check doctors out. You can find reviews of them and opinions online. Just google doctor rater. Either way getting so demanding that you have options without actually looking seems silly to me.

1 - Unfair comparison to the OP.
2 - Your assuming an schizophrenic will apply for a permit

I wasn't making a comparison to the OP, I was counter-arguing Oldskoolfan on both 1 and 2. [probably should have mentioned that in my post]

He said there was nothing that would keep him from signing it except, we don't do that here. So that's an easy one. DON'T GO THERE!!!

We went from "occasional bouts of depression" to paranoid schizophrenia...

I don't think anyone would argue with NOT allowing someone who suffers from schizophrenia to own firearms, however, it is a far cry from "occasional bouts of depression".

FWIW, the majority of folks on this board likely suffers from "occasional bouts of depression" and do not seek medical attention for it. Anyone here had a loved one died? Experienced a divorce? Lose a job? Experienced financial difficulities? Were you happy when it happen?

The smart folks go get help. Sometimes it's therapy with a pshrink, a priest, or even meds.

The dumb ones tough it out and hope for the best. Sometimes it works, other times their mental health suffers long term effects.

So, we're going to punish the smart ones who know when to get help by disallowing them to own firearms???

Remember people - we weren't talking about bi-polar, schizophrenia, or psychosis. We're talking about "occasional bouts of depression". :banghead:

Let me re- read the second amendment. I don't remember the part about, "......unless some guy thinks you shouldn't."

Medical records is just a red herring to deny your rights.

Wait until Uncle Sam is running your health insurance.
"Mr. Guns, I see here you admit that once you had a drink, I'm afraid we won't be able to give you that heart transplant, the end of life counselors are down the hall. NEXT."

Well, if you can move to say Colorado or west Virginia, you can solve the flooding problems ;)
Otherwise (as redundant as it is) I would suggest finding a new doctor. Of course, you could try talking to someone over him to see what this "we don't do it here" really is, actual policy or him trying to push blame for his anti-2A sentiment onto 'the man'
