I agree with your logic, but ATF logic doesn't work the same as mine or yours seemingly. Because if they agreed a brace was not the same as a stock then why are they even pushing this registration effort? Maybe I'm a cynic but I don't trust them to not use any info I provide them today against me tomorrow and feel they are rigging this whole boondoggle as a no win proposition for gun owners.

I am certainly glad I don't own now and never have possessed any braced pistols or anything like them so that it's a moot point for me. ;)

I have none as well but I am always against the erosion of our rights, in any form. If I blow off all the groups I don’t care about, there won’t be anyone left to help me when they come after my stuff.

    Have a braced pistol?
The ATF is going to hunt you down like a dog. They are expecting up to 40 million pistols to be destroyed, surrendered, converted to rifles or registered ad SBRs.
This is sounding way worse than I ever though it would be and I'm pretty pessimistic. Remember that searchable gun register they didn't have? Surprise they have a searchable database of some like 900 million firearms transactions.
Apparently they are going after every AR, AK, TC, MP5, tec9, chargers, P50? what ever adds up to 40 million sbr like pistols ever sold, looks like there will be no slick tube option for your AR. Say your AK pistol has a pistol trunion and you would think that would be safe because one would have to weld something on to or swap out the rear trunion for a rifle trunion, nope.
I was thinking like 4 to 10 million max, not 40 million, that's totally insane.

There's no way the ATF or the NFA comes through this intact. The ATF is going to be missing a letter or the NFA will be gone or missing big chunks.

This way to vague of a rule. Plus they do not have any justification to change the law. This will be kicked by SCOTUS. With the SCOTUS having just ruled the epa did not have the authority to change the law.

The ATF has already lost the power to make defacto laws granted to them under chevron deference, but they don't care.

That's why I think the ATF is going to come out of this missing a letter or an entire branch like the NFA.

I don’t trust them! and would not even give them my name without a lawyer. What if I said my name slightly off, that’s lying and I would probably get charged. << and don’t think they won’t

I don't plan to register anything, free or not.
So if the new rules make it not worth running a brace, I'd rather just ditch em. I ran straight tube pistols for years before there were braces, not an issue.

I think they have to wait for the final version of the rule to be published.

Looks like the ATF got so much blow back from hinting in their budget proposal that they were going to go after potentially as many as 40 million "assault pistol thingys" last week that they had to clarify.
    It appears now:
    WMDandPistol.png
AR pistols with a slick tube or a nerf tube and AK pistols with a solid rear trunion are all ok they're just nearly harmless pistols and pistol brace equipped guns are as dangerous as machine guns, grenades, 107mm rockets, poison gas, ect need to be tightly regulated.
But put a 16'' barrel or barrel plus permanent muzzle device that adds up to 16+ inches on a braced gun and now it's just a nearly harmless rifle. Makes sense right?

We're already living this in California. SCOTUS puts out a beautiful and fair NYSRPA Ruling and our state goes the opposite and massively begins infringing and enforcing Unconstitutional laws with even greater zeal than before the ruling. New York, Hawaii, Mass, NJ do the same. I think the ATF is in a similar boat nationally, they simply don't care what SCOTUS rules on, they continue to invent new "laws" and regulations that are astoundingly Unconstitutional. Is anyone stopping them? Are they beholden to obey anyone other than the Potato? Is Congress stopping them? They are obviously a rogue organization, essentially Biden and the DNC's anti-civilian firearms ownership henchman and can do whatever they want with relative impunity. It's ridiculous.

Won't know it until it is final, some rather large companies started the "braced pistol" thing, I expect lawsuits.

If there is a tax free registration, I was take advantage of it. If not I'll go back to bare buffer tubes. I have already registered SBRs, Just got the braced lowers so I could avoid so much swapping of uppers

For sure there will be lawsuits. They are taking what was a legally defined pistol at the time of purchase and turning it into an unregistered SBR just because a bureacrat says so. This is legislation by bureau, not by Congress. With the current Supreme Court, this could ultimately be a game changer in our favor.

    Ahhh no.
Hawaii and NY are being forced for the first time to start cutting concealed carry permits now because in NY state pistol association vs NY.
California's magazine ban has been over turned, just waiting for it to be struck from the books. With more to follow.
In Texas, tactical machine vs USA appears to be stopping the ATFs new frames and receiver rule.
