I still lived at home with my mom and two brothers (one of whom was a drug abuser) when I started shooting. My mom didn't want any of my guns loaded in the house. My third gun was my first handgun, and I did sometimes load it at night when I was home. It was a Taurus Model 66, loaded with .38 Special ammo. That was back in 1987, and I was sworn in as a LEO later that year. Once that happened, her objections to my having my gun loaded, as long as it was within my control, faded. The Taurus and my issued sidearm, a S&W M67, were first-up for defense duty, my only long guns at the time being a Ruger 10/22 and a single-shot 20 gauge shotgun.
I married and moved out in 1989, and those two revolvers carried on with me.
