BELVIDERE | A Blairstown Township man charged with unlawful possession of 28 guns, including assault rifles, was arraigned Monday in state Superior Court.

Paul E. Waller, of Cedar Lake Road, is charged with possessing weapons ranging from a BB gun to assault rifles.

Authorities aren't releasing details about the circumstances of Waller's arrest Friday or why he allegedly owned so many weapons.

A New Jersey State Police spokesman said the case remains under investigation and declined further comment.

Waller is charged with three complaints of failing to register assault weapons, according to court records.

He is also charged with illegal possession of an MAK-90 7.62-caliber assault firearm and a Russian-made SKS-45 assault firearm.

The other charges include illegal possession of two double-barreled shotguns, two 12-gauge shotguns and a Browning rifle.

Waller did not return a message left with a woman who answered the phone at his home Monday.

He needed to move out of NJ long ago. The police in Utah would have looked at that stuff and said, "hey, nice collection."

-- of course if he's a felon or something, or had illegal NFA stuff, I take it back.

It's sad how that would be a nonstory in most other states. I have un registered assault wepoans? So what?

He's going to go to jail for what is perfectly legal for me in Florida.
And for that matter, most of the US for now. I wonder if Heller could save him if it comes down in time.

Amateur.

Since he is not in DC, and he is not charged with violating a complete federal ban on possession of firearms, I'm going to say "no shot whatsoever".

People need to look at Heller for what it is. There is a very narrow issue that is immediately at hand. What Heller is going to do is set the foundation for future cases. It will immediately change nothing outside of DC.

We've all gotta start somewhere.

The article didn't say how old the guy was but I figure you're doing okay if you've got at least as many guns as your age in years (I'm going to have to buy a few more in a couple years to keep up with my own standards:uhoh:).

It's just a shame that a felony conviction will follow this guy out of NJ, even though his 'crime' is all but mandatory in saner locales.:fire:

I agree it wouldn't be immediate. But in the appeals process, Heller's USSC precedent might at least give him a leg to stand on. We can hope.

Are shotguns illegal in Jersey too?

Dear anyone who lives in Jersey: Move.

Wow it's amazing that neither a MAK-90 or an SKS is classified as an assault firearm under NJ law. Unless there is something more involved to this, or he had high capacity mags he should be able to beat this in court.

It's New Jersey! It could have been a .22 pistol and a Daisy BB gun and they'd have called it an arsenal.

Whoa! Was he crazy? He coulda shot his eye out with that thing!

charged with unlawful possession of 28 guns

assault rifles

weapons ranging from a BB gun to assault rifles

weapons

three complaints of failing to register assault weapons

assault firearm

SKS-45 assault firearm.

As usual, the reporter is all over the map with the proper use of terms.

"assault rifle" "assault weapon" and "assault firearm"?

Is the term "assault firearm" used according to statute? And does one have to register their BB gun in NJ?

Probably would have gotten that same response in Oklahoma too....

I would not live in that messed up communist state. Unless he is a convicted felon, I don't see where there were any laws broken, were he living in Texas.
God Bless Texas!!

According to NJ Statutes the term is "assault firearm". And yes NJ gun law treats BB guns as firearms which must be purchased with a Firearms ID Card if a rifle or a Permit to Purchase a Pistol if a handgun. All PTP automatically register handguns so yes it would be registered if purchased legally in NJ even though there is no requirement for firearms to be registered to be legal. Yes I know it's quite a mess. :banghead:
