There was a gunsmith who said "Don't load target pistol ammo with shotshell powder, it is gritty and will wear the barrel faster than real pistol powder." Sounds pretty hokey to me.
Cease to exist? I don't know why DuPont discontinued No 5, No 6, and P5066. Good powders but maybe they could not compete well with Bullseye and Unique.
I've got over 25K rounds on an HK P30. 99% of the ammo was made using WSF, Red Dot, and Clay Dot. All shotgun powders and the pistol has no accuracy issues that I can tell.
I try different shotgun/pistol powders to have a good time making different loads for my pistols and carbines. If I could have only have one powder it would be hands down Unique. Better powders in performance and metering? You bet....But for the large range of cartridge coverage and data available,it can't be beat. IMHO
For dirt cheap Alliant Promo ,is about as economical as you can get powder wise these days . Use Red Dot load info and IF You shoot shotshell you're a #1 powder Man
