Question for you PRC owners: How big of a problem is the "clicker" issue on PRC cases after they've been fired a few times? I've read and heard a few things in various places complaining that the 6.5 and 300 PRCs have a design flaw where you get stiff bolt lift on about every case after 2, 3, or 4 firings because the die can't/won't size the case web or body back down enough. Some blame dies. Some blame the cartridge design and say the fix is Alex Wheeler's modified chamber dimensions. But I can't tell if this is a common problem or not.

I'm not overly interested in the cause or fix for such problem; I just want to know how prevalent it is. Is this something that only folks pushing cases to and beyond SAAMI max pressure experience, or is it something that happens to everyone? If you own and reload for a PRC, which one do you have, what brand of brass are you using, and how many firings are you getting on it? Have you experienced the clicker problem on a PRC case?

This goes in the dream category for me at the moment as I'm not really planning to buy any flavor of PRC-chambered rifle any time soon. But, the 7 PRC is new and interesting, especially if it gets more brass/ammo support, and the 6.5 PRC is somewhat interesting to me as well. So maybe someday.

Often this is a byproduct of not getting the case sized all the way to the base. What sizing die are you using?

I saw it on the first 7prc I worked loads up for bumping the shoulder back.002. I couldn’t get the gun to do much better that 1/2” at 100yards custom gun fought Hornady brass that is really not vary consistent. Second firing I was having to push all the way back to spec, and I was not pushing it vary hard. Working on loads for a bergara 7 prc now but I got some Peterson brass to work with that is much better so will see. I was seeing stiff bolt close from the case web area, some of that was after firing factory ammo that was little too hot I think. One Lott of ammo had almost 72g of a ball type powder that looked like Staball HD, the next lot had what looked like H1000

This is more an informational quest than anything else. I don’t have a PRC. If I did, I’d probably have a Redding full length sizing die of some stripe for it.

Best of luck. I didn’t know Peterson made brass for it yet but that’s encouraging. I hope you figure it out.
