My 870 18.5" is my primary go-to in a HD situation.

Although I am getting very comfortable with my XD .40 these days and I have some narrow, long hallways...

I guess the cutting over point will be when I move the light from the scattergun to the XD and get some low light practice with it.

I try not to play at testosterone (one look at my bookshelf and you'd know right off) but I've long ago decided an armed response in my home will be as armed as I can make it :)

So my front line is a Mossberg 590, 20'' bbl with the extended mag. Gun holds eight rounds at cruiser ready, and I sprang for the more expensive low-flash low-recoil 3'' 000 buck rounds. This is backed up by a satchel (I think it used to be a gas mask pouch) with ~40 rounds of sporting 00 buck.

After that it's just my CCW pistol and a tomahawk.. but I figure all the shooting will wake my old man up, and he's an ornery old coot with an M1 carbine in his closet :)

I didn't see the most common home defense weapon listed; a Louisville Slugger.

My new home setup is migrating to an Olympic Arms K9-GL 9mm carbine and a Glock 17. Both use the same magazines which is kind of a bonus. I didn't feel the need to be using a rifle round in my house, but that's a common discussion that has been over-discussed.

AR15 carbine for me. I think that shotguns are good but overrated in home defense. A pistol would be my last choice although I would likely grab the closest firearm regardless.

for HD, shotguns trump handguns, IMO. easier to aim, infinitely more stopping power, less chance of wall penetration. i think every home should have a shotgun of some type in it. here's mine:

My primary home weapons are a Remington 870 loaded with 6 rounds of 12ga #4 Buckshot, and my newly acquired Glock 20 with 16 rounds of 165gr 10mm Golden Saber's from DoubleTap. I also have an AK with 8 X 30 rounds on tap if things get really ugly... but I doubt I'll ever need to take it that far... unless we get invaded by a foreign government, or aliens, or zombies.

My day-carry stays on me or next to me until I hit the sack. Then it's a Taurus PT92 in a bed holster and a Mossberg 500 next to it.

I will be replacing the 9mm with another .45 soon - just haven't found the right one yet.

What is your primary non CCW home defense weapon(s)

I didn't vote because my primary home defense weapon is my CCW.

But if I were to have a weapon specifically for home defense it would be an 18.5 inch barrel, 12 gauge pump with a Knoxx Spec Ops stock and a laser/light combo, loaded with low-recoil #00 buckshot.

To answer my own poll and question, I take these out of the safe when I head to bed: my .40 caliber Glock .35 with extra magazines and rail light is in my nighttime starting lineup for bumps in the night. For barricading duty I rely on my 12 gauge Remi 870 with buckshot.

Seems like everyone here has the right tools for success.

These two, but there are 6-8 others that are always loaded around the house.
My HD includes several out buildings 35-40 yards around the house.
