Probably my fault, I don't know. No lectures, just advice

Here's my take.
He cleaned your car and in order to do so he move your stuff around, you asked him about it, maybe in an intimidating manner or what he took to be an intimidating manner,. he denied, denied, denied, as we are taught to do as young men.

Bottom line is he did not steal your gun, that's a plus for him. He could have and probably could have gotten away with it but he didn't.

Chalk it up to a lesson learned cheaply and install locks on the center console or the glovebox or install a lock box in the car.
I know that most people will read this and think you are some kind of teenage wanna be moron or something because there is a stigma about Trans Ams and Cameros. Some people think that Camero drivers are all dumb rednecks but I am not one of them
When did that happen? I've heard that a lot lately but in the 80s it was the yuppy, dancer, stripper and cheerleader types that owned them. No self respecting dumb redneck would be caught driving one that wasn't suped up or jacked up.

I definitely don't understand why you are upset if the gun isn't missing. He did his job. Detailers don't necessarily put your stuff back exactly as it was before. Like my guys will stack all my papers for me, take the loose stuff, and put it in my center console, etc. If they moved my gun around while cleaning, I would give them credit for actually touching the thing and cleaning underneath it, without throwing a fit. If it got put back wrong, oh well, I knew they were in there, and I would have checked the moment I got in my car anyways.

Now, if it was me, I would have put the gun in my pocket and brought it into work while he had my car. Especially a small revo. My S&W 5906 which is my car gun would not be able to be concealed practically on my body with what I wear. So it would have stayed in the car.

I would give the guy 1/3 credit. 1/3 for not stealing the gun, thus proving himself somewhat honest. -1/3 for lying to you about it, which I would be kinda scared at first, and have lied before just outta being scared, and thought back how stupid it was after the fact. And -1/3 for reving the Z06 motor when he is someone that is supposed to be trusted with your car. Although the owner might not car, it doesn't matter.

Just FWIW, it is a good idea, if you don't know, to find out exactly what "detailing" means. Yes, it means cleaning everything, even cleaning up glove compartments, tape/disc compartments, consoles, etc. The good places put out a car that looks like it just came from the factory as far as cleanliness goes.

So, I think they did clean the compartment, regardless of what the owner says, and that is what they were expected to do.

I fail to see why the gun couldn't have been left at home for one day; even the seriously paranoid have to take a chance once in a while.

If it wasn't stolen this time, it will be the next time when he tells his homies about the dude that keeps a gun in his car. Lockbox, in the trunk, or quit carrying a gun. If it isn't on you, you don't know where it is. You might consider getting with an attorney and writing out an affidavit of fact that for that period of time, your gun was out of your possession in the off chance somebody did use it to kill somebody. It would really suck if you ever need it to defend yourself and the ballistics match a 5 year old unsolved homicide. If I lived on the east coast, I would be even more paranoid.

Some general thoughts that apply:

Anytime you can not account for the disposition of handgun that was in your custody, you need to let the local authorities know immediately. It doesn't matter if they deem it lost or stolen, it is a dangerous weapon that cannot be accounted for.

Anyone who cannot account for the disposition of a handgun that was in their custody shouldn't be trusted with another one.

That sounds like a really really off chance. I wouldn't worry about that too much. It is possible but not likely. Who sees a gun unattended and thinks to himself "cool, now I can go kill someone and bring it back before the owner even knows it is missing"? I think that but I hope that the general public is not as sick as I am.

I agree, but, the original poster seemed really freaked out about it and even mentioned somebody using the gun in a crime...Just a thought to cover all the bases...(Me, I wouldn't give it another thought, just glad the damned gun was still there :) )

????????

Guys, I gave you a lot of background info., but the sole question was:
Here's a situation, the guy has my car and my gun. What if he shot someone with it and was caught in the act. Can I get in trouble with the law.

The question was a hypothetical

To answer the question; Well, it depends. I think in some jurisdictions, and some departments, the older officers are authorized to "dope slap" a younger person that does something that they should have known better. Not cause injury, just a humiliating action, meant to instill a "lesson" from the incident. Rather like your Mother would do in certain circumstances.

If I read correctly you woulld not be in criminal trouble in Fla, there is no requirement to report a gun missing or stolen here.
Civil may be a different matter
The laws in your state may also be a different matter
