Except the Colt would be a Ford Taurus.
Ubiquitous, functional, not unpleasant to the eye and American.
The Mercedes may be nicer, but the Ford is still a car too.

I'm a Dodge HellCat kind of human, myself.

UPDATE

So I have now taken my rifle out 3 times now and have about 300 rounds through it. I have gotten much better with the stock iron sights and since I discovered that the rear Magpul MBUS flip up sight has two different sized apertures, target acquisition is much faster (I'm sorta embarrassed to admit this).

I have decided to stick with Iron sights for this rifle and build a range toy to throw optics on. I have looked into some aftermarket A2 rear sights, but I have also read that putting an A2 rear sight on a flat top is a bad idea.

What I would like is a rear sight with duel apertures that has a click style elevation adjustment, but I want one that is built like a brick $#&!house. Preferably something that is all aluminum or steel. The Magpul rear sight that came with the rifle doesn't have elevation adjustment, and it feels super cheap to me.

Price isn't an issue. I have no problem spending over $100 for a high quality adjustable rear iron sight.

Elevation is adjusted from the front sight. There’s a special tool used to turn the sight up or down.

I knew somebody would eventually say this, but i figured it would be 10-12 posts later.........BRAVO my friend! LOL

Anyways, I'm looking for a rear sight with click style elevation

I have used 2 of these, they are well built, and $25:

Description says for airsoft, but it is all-metal, and heavy. I have to think the "airsoft" disclaimer is to skirt Amazon and eBay's distaste for AR accessories.

I have that exact same sight and like it. But if OP wants a tough iron sight, that's definitely not the one to get. It's Chinese pot metal .

Click elevation for long distance range selection is a great feature to have on your rear sight. I wish my eyes were good enough for iron sights!

Bigmike, the one I linked above is the Magpul Pro version which is all steel in a flip-up configuration. It has elevation as well (there is another Pro version without). Otherwise the RRA is a solid choice, I have one with the Eotech riser mount and it is sturdy.

If you're sticking with irons and not going with a red dot I'd nominate going with a plain old carry handle (try BCM or PSA) or the Daniel Defense A1.5.

Out of the AR's I've kept or that have gone through my hands (bought or built for a family member, sold to a friend or just sold) the iron sights that I've used over and over again have been the standard AR carry handle, the Daniel Defense A1.5, the Magpul MBUS, GG&G flip up rears (when they were inexpensive) or Troy flip ups.

If you aren't throwing on a red dot there's no reason to use flip ups.

The DD A1.5 weighs quite a bit less than the carry handle.

Bomb proof, dual aperture, and elevation? I’d suggest an LMT rear sight.

Or, you could get a DD A1.5 that lacks rear elevation adjustment, zero with a 50/200, and learn holdovers beyond 200.

Both are great sights

With the carbines with that sight that's exactly what I did. (Except to actually be correct it's a little beyond 200, more like 225 depending on barrel length/load whatever)

For the most part if I'm using a 16" inch Carbine with an iron sight I generally haven't shot those past 200y a whole lot.

Tried at 300, saw where it was hitting, confirmed, made a range card and taped it to the stock or just used a paint pen and permanently marked it on there.

For AR's with scopes I generally use the 36y zero.

You are correct, sir. It’s a touch beyond 200 in actuality. 50/200 is terminology that I’ve stuck with for some reason I guess.

Like you have done, it’s been on my mind to also tape a range card on my stock, just as a quick reference. Good idea.

Not meaning to be persnickety but the OP has already responded in the negative to the idea of a sight that lacks elevation adjustment.

I have decided to go with a standard carry handle type sight.
Been looking at RRA stuff this morning, but I also have seen quite a few like new Used Colt factory carry handles on Ebay as well. Am I getting anything more as far as quality goes with an RRA carry handle over the factory Colt handle? I like the idea of a factory Colt handle being that my rifle is a Colt, But I'm willing to drop another $40 on the RRA if it's truly a better product. My main concern is a sight that is robust/durable that holds zero.

I have several rifles with high powered optics, so I thought shooting irons at 300+ yards with iron sights could be a lot of fun. I have a buddy that put some real sights on a Mosin Nagant that we do that with, and it's a good time. I like the idea of being able to do this with a rifle that my wife and Nephew will shoot too.

Back in the panic days the Colts were going for $3500 at gun shows and the generic AR`s were $2200 to $2500.
That Colt roll mark was worth the extra $$$ IMHO

I'ld rather push my Ford up and down the street than drive some Chrysler product that you can buy only WITH THE HELP OF MY TAX DOLLARS!!!!

I leave politics out of my adoration for automotive apperances. I care not what it is, if it needs to be pushed, on to me or by me, it is not for me.

A Colt AR is a Smith and Wesson AR, is a Windham, is a Bushmaster. A JP rifle is not a Colt, a HellCat is not a Taurus.

I guess I cease to be principled at seven hundred horse power. (Didn't they pay it back?)

Well, bless your heart! But, really. It's fine. I've got broad shoulders. Let the automaker free from sin cast the first hubcap...

Anyway...

Colts are fine.
Iron sights? Check.
Decent lead. Got it... Ok. Take two hundred rounds to the range this weekend and write us Sunday morning to see if it's grown on you any, Mike.

The best part... If it's raining nobody else will be there. And. An Ar won't care a whit. Happy Shooting!
