Question RE: Double Tap Equalizer 230gr 10mm

Hey folks,
Just came across something pretty interesting today on DoubleTap's website.

Its a 230gr (2 piece projectile), the bullet is a 10mm 135gr HP and behind it follows a 95gr ball projectile, sounds awesome to me, apparently the ball rides and hits a little higher than the HP, depending on range.

I was just curious if anybody here has used this ammo before and am interested to hear what they have to say about it regarding accuracy, effective range, and whatever else.

More specifically I own a 2nd generation Glock 20 and was wondering if there is any reason I should use caution with this particular loading as it is an older gun and I have heard a lot of things regarding Glock's and ammo sensitivity, Kabboms, etc.....(Although that has never proved to be the case based on the Glocks I own, but better safe than sorry)

The majority of the horror stories I hear about Glocks are about the .40's and some 10mm's, just wanted to make sure it isn't one of those risky loads for the Glock 10mm.

Has anybody here used this load in their Glock 20? More or less just looking for a go-ahead as it seems like it would be a devastating SD/HD/Hunting load.

I bought 3 boxes but have not shot them yet... but, he uses them in his Glocks so they must work ok...
 
I am pretty new to the 10mm load and never planned on owning one, actually I never had any interest in the 10mm whatsoever and really didn't want to venture out of the calibers I already owned, but this 2nd gen G20 just sort of happenned to fall into my hands.

So far I have no regrets and am loving the 10mm and am glad I made the exception, so for any of you 10mm veterans, feel free to chime in and tell me your experience.
 
Its been a while since i had my G20, But i do remember some of the important things.
Yes, The Silvertips are full power loads.
Id stay away from oddball loads like the 230gr Equalizer.
A well placed and expanded 200gr or 180gr will be more accurate and effective.
I liked DT's 200gr Bonded loads when i had mine almost 2 years ago.
Just try and be sure what bullet hes using now as it changes alot.
Bonded is a very good idea with such high speed ammo so the lead and jacket don't separate on expansion.

Look up Buffolo Bore ammo also for some good 10mm loads.

Ive never heard of the 2nd gens having case support issues like the .40's did. But if that was the case it would be more well known by now as the 10mm has some serious power.

BTW anything you buy in a 50 round pack from a major maker will usually be downloaded.
Its only when you get into SD 20 round packs or special loads like 50 round DT's that you get the full power loads. If its a LEO load in 50 rounds you will need to look them up on thier website for fps speeds.
 
Good question and one I look forward to see the answer to as I have just purchased a G29 and I have never owned a 10 either
 
I used to really like DT's stuff, but as of late Mike McNett has been using cheap bullets instead of bullets like Gold Dot or Golden Sabre he used to. Now he is all over the board - plain Remington JHP, Montana Gold, etc. Some calibers he doesn't even list the bullet.

I like his prices and the velocity he achieves, but without the right bullet it's trash, IMO.
 
The dual-projectile thing seemed like a good idea and sounded pretty neat but now it seems a little bit obscene, the G20 has a capacity of 15+1 rds and the need to use a load like that seems unnessasary

As much as I might like the idea of an equalizer load, a 180-200gr 10mm hollow point should be sufficient enough, not to mention 15 of them.
 
In fact the whole idea of an "equalizer" load is absolutely rediculous, I would like to see someone try to equate the firepower of 16rds of 200gr 10mm HP's.

I don't think it can be done
 
the double tap 135 grain nosler jhp is well over 750 lbs of muzzle energy and i think 1600 fps, if not i know it is 1400fps for sure.

the equalizer is the absolute bomb, i have shot many of them out of a tanfoglio 10mm

i keep the clip mixed with the 135g jhp's and the equalizer.

the 135 graind is all ove the 200 grain load. i feel.
 
I think it looks like a cool round thou I have not been able to find any ballistic gel results of the round. If you do buy and shoot some it might be helpful to shot it into some ballistic gel to see how it works.
 
the more that i think about it, it is BULLSH*T.

nobody makes those numbers out of a normal handfired 10mm

that is aproaching 10mm MAGNUM numbers.

i mean i highly doubt it is going to NOT damage a glock 10mm or a tanfoglio 10mm. i just dont hink these guns would hold up. heavy recoil spring be damned i just dont see it.

a custom 1911 converted to 10mm, is a different story, as there tends to be a few thousandths of an inch thicker material in the chamber area.

OR, better yet, i have a question

"DOES/DID Any one here ever use his 800lbs.+ foot pounds of muzzle energy loads? Did you Chrono them, and what was the velocity of them.

Personally, I seek decent bullets (e.g XTP or Gold Dot) with 180gr at 1300 ft/s or 200gr at 1200 ft/s. Swamp Fox will load to those specs.

I have two 10mm handguns. One is a custom 1911. There is almost no case bulging with that one. My Glock 29 has a stock barrel, but shows minimal bulging with Double Tap ammo. Bought that DT ammo about five years ago, when they were loaded right.


The OP has probably moved off this topic, but I've read where neither Equalizer projectile penetrates very much.
 
I do not know about swampfox but I can tell you my setup. Glock 20, wolf barrel, steel rod and heavy recoil spring. It is my carry pistol. I shoot handloads. Montana Gold 180g hollow pts at 1400 fps. No problem. It works like a charm and the recoil is less than a 629 smith. I figure a one shot stop on a horse. HA. BTW I own horses so please do not go nuts about hurting horses.
 
I had a gen II Glock 20 and it was indeed a fine weapon. I had read on some website that you could feed it .40 ammo without a problem. Well, being the chronic risk taker I was, I had to try it.

Wonder upon wonders it worked just fine!! I must have fired 200 rnds without the first bobble. I was still fighting the different grip angle of the Glocks back then so I sold the pistol to a friend and got a Witness in 10mm. Other than it's inability to digest .40 it is a fine pistol and points much better.
