Well, I live about 15 miles east of Albemarle. There is a range called Efird's range. It's outdoors. Nice range and he runs a tight ship. He has a CMP there too. apparently, the people of Albemarle will keep guns in their WAL-MART! He also has ranges there that the LEO's can use and has a nice place to hold all kinds of things there. Just my 2 cents worth!;)

Central NC informal shoot

I already have 3 of my co-workers hitting SSI with me this Sunday morning.
We could take another 3 THRs if anyone needs some range time.

Email me for details.

Another tarheel here, checking in... I live on the Orange/Durham county border, member of DPRC, and semi-convenient to PDHSC and Davi's (bleh). Good to see other NCers!

Yet another Tarheel checking in...... I live in Creedmoor, about 7 miles from Sir Walter Gun Club, where I'm a member. Informal rifle shooter, but USPSA shooting has bit my wife and I in the butt! Man we love it! ;)

If any of you shoot USPSA, I hope to see / meet you at the SWGC monthly match (first Saturday of each month).

All the best, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Jeff

And what a blast (literally) we have!!!

Jeff, hook up with me and J at the December match. We have been shooting the SWGC match on the first Sat, an IPSC/IDPA hybrid match at Old Hickory in Rocky Mount on the 2nd Sat and a hybrid match at Frank's on the 5th Sun (there is one in December woo hoo).

We just need a match for the 2nd and 3rd Saturday and we can quit our jobs, get sponsers and become full time shooters!

Well I'm in NY,but make it down to NC a few times a year.
Every time I go shooting with an old friend at his club.
He's in Apex, the club is @ 10 min from Jordon lake.
Any of you guys shoot at that club? Don't know the name.
It's a very nice course I think, love the auto traps.
Don't see many auto traps in NY!!!
Never seen a rifle range, they do have what I guess you might
call a pistol range(before station 1).

What exactly is SSI?

It's a members-only private range in the Louisburg area. It is short for "Shooting Sports, Inc.".

Membership is always sold out (limited to a couple of hundred) and you'd need to get on a waiting list if you want to join. If an existing member does not renew, they'll give someone on the waiting list an opportunity to join. Young Guns in Apex handles the membership.

The facility has several pistol ranges, a 200 yard rifle range (with benches at 100 yards as well) and a clays area with spring-loaded target launchers. The range is primitive... no lighting, no buildings but has a very nice and well maintained outhouse. There's a covered meeting place and the 100 yard portion of the rifle range is covered as well.

NFA items are unrestricted. Make sure you have the appropriate paperwork with you.

If you're looking for a "no BS" place to shoot, SSI is it.

Steve

Steve I agree SSI is a great range. I have been shooting there about 18 years now though I miss the matches. I try to make it every other Sunday.
I am planning on shooting the match at Sir Walter December 1st.

It concerns me that the names of, for example, abused wives with CCWs will be posted for their ex-husbands to track them down.

Doesn't really bug me that MY name could be released. Criminals aren't going to go around checking everyone's name against the list before they rob a store. If I'm there, those criminals will eat hydrashoks regardless of whether the Charlotte Observer knows who I am or not.

Exactly, that is my concern as well... many people with CHP's got them for a reason, and I suspect most of them like to maintain a low profile .... hence the "concealed" bit.

Yea I'll be at the December 1st USPSA match at SirWalter, as well as the wife. Also trying to get a fellow co-worker to attend as well. Been PM'ing with Hunter 0924 and he's going as well. Should be a good squad!

Don't eat to much today..... LOL

See you in a week.
