Rare rifles

Love the Johnson! Have you shot it yet?

I handled an M88 in .308 recently. It was a beautiful gun, bug the lever action was really, really heavy- easily twice the effort of a M73.

My rarest long gun is probably my M1922, fewer than 20,000 made between 1922 and 1942-View attachment 879929
Not yet. Will have to wait til spring. Beautiful rifle. I am finding the French made some neat stuff.

I've always had a thing for lever guns with straight grip stocks. Especially the Marlins.

These are rare to me. Both the Marlin and Winchester are 1958 production. The same year I was born

This is a more modern version of the Marlin Maurader. I don't have exact production numbers, but the Maurader was made in the 1950's and 60's. This version was only made 1988 and part of 1989. I've seen a couple of photos of others, but mine is the only one I've actually seen in person. It is a 16" 30-30, less than 2000 made.

Marlin made 500 of these in blue, 500 in SS back in 2005. It is essentially the same as the Guide gun, but in 35 Rem. Rifle on the right, the one on the left is my Marlin 44 mag.

Oh, sorry, you are probably confusing my M1922 with the similiar-looking French MAS-45 .22, which was a post war version of the Mauser KKW .22.

Mine is a Springfield Armory M1922, made to provide cheap practice for the Army Marksmanship teams, though also sold to the general public in small numbers as they were expensive and the Depression was in full swing.

The MAS is a very nice rifle, though, and I have come within a hair of buying one several times.

I suppose rare is very subjective, but always fun to share. Especially on Christmas Eve with a glass of eggnog in hand.

Very nice. I'm jealous.

Beautiful guns, that hammerli is something else- i'm sure it's quite a shooter.

I adore that hotchkiss

my Avitar is my oldest 1856 Maynard 50 caliber, next is my 1906 american eagle, then my 1930 Remington model 8, then my 1956 336 Marlin in 35 Rem. Anything after 1960 I consider new.

Not looking for appraisals.
I thought you were ! That johnson of yours looks good enough I double my first guess to $4000 . The others are accurate. The .284 pre 64 Model 88 is a bit low too, there were not alot made pre 64 and they were quite popular in their day and for good reason as they were very accurate for a lever gun because of the one piece stock , and very smooth quick shuck with a decent trigger. The .257 Featherweight does command more value than some other calibers . The .375 H&H pre 64 is allways desirable and it took me 40 years to find a sweet one that I could afford.

Photobucket has currently lost all my photos, and I have a few "rare" rifles I'd show :(
