I run an Armalite National Match rifle with the stock 2-stage trigger. It's been very reliable for me over the years. However, for a 3-gun or similiar type of rifle, I'd want a single-stage because of the shorter reset. The Gieselle 2 stage triggers are very popular in Highpower, I would consider their duty-type trigger to be a safe bet.
That said, I agree that triggers aren't make-or-break important to good groups, within reason. What's reasonable? You're not going to shoot very well with an 8-lb trigger on a 7-lb carbine unless your fundamentals are excellent. But once you get to the 5-lb range, stop blaming the trigger for the shots that don't go to the middle.
(My Armalite trigger is at least 4.5-lbs, per the Service Rifle match rules. It passes the check weights at big matches every time. And I have a 5-shot, 1-MOA group at 200 yards around here somewhere to show that it can shoot.)
