After I get an AR I think I want to look into triggers. The LWRC I want has a stronger 5-6 lbs trigger. I want to be able to shoot this rifle very quickly and stay on target. Would anyone recommend either a light single stage or a two stage? I don't know a lot about triggers right now.

- Thanks.

For a single stage, I would go with JP Enterprises. For a two stage, the Wilson Combat drop in unit is awesome.

I have both RRA NM triggers and Geiselle.

The Geiselle is about as close to the perfect highpower trigger as you can get - no creep, breaks like a glass rod at the same poundage, almost no overtravel. 2nd stage poundage is..?? like a pound?? I forget exactly. If you're not shooting well with a Geiselle on the gun it won't be due to the trigger.

The RRA is pretty good, but you can feel some creep and the 2nd stage poundage is most of the pull weight. It's also about half the $$.

First, get the rifle. Every AR I have ever known has a halfway decent trigger, once it breaks in. So get the rifle, put 500-1000 rounds downrange, and when you are shooting 1 inch 10 round groups at 100 yards, THEN think about a trigger.

The greatest aid to accuracy is going to be GOOD ammo. The trigger is so far down the list that in 30 years with the platform, I've never gotten good enough to need a better trigger.

There are SO many things that will help you "shoot quickly and stay on target" than a new trigger- and most of them are about what YOU do with it, NOT what you do it WITH.

I have the Wilson Combat single stage and love it. I have heard very good things about their 2-stage as well as their 3-gun version, but like a single, crisp pull personally.

Geissele SSA-E, simply a pleasure to shoot..

You might improve with a good trigger.;)

I run an Armalite National Match rifle with the stock 2-stage trigger. It's been very reliable for me over the years. However, for a 3-gun or similiar type of rifle, I'd want a single-stage because of the shorter reset. The Gieselle 2 stage triggers are very popular in Highpower, I would consider their duty-type trigger to be a safe bet.

That said, I agree that triggers aren't make-or-break important to good groups, within reason. What's reasonable? You're not going to shoot very well with an 8-lb trigger on a 7-lb carbine unless your fundamentals are excellent. But once you get to the 5-lb range, stop blaming the trigger for the shots that don't go to the middle.

(My Armalite trigger is at least 4.5-lbs, per the Service Rifle match rules. It passes the check weights at big matches every time. And I have a 5-shot, 1-MOA group at 200 yards around here somewhere to show that it can shoot.)

+1 on the ArmaLite two stage triggers. I have upgraded all my AR's to the NM or Tactical two stage from ArmaLite.

If you want quick follow up, a single stage is slightly faster reset and less travel.

Depends on who makes it and how they wanted it engineered. Some 2-stages can be just as fast because they don't need to go back to the 1st stage for reset. For example, the Wilson Combat 3-gun trigger was designed with fast follow-ups in mind and described as extremely quick by a few I know that have used it.

I used to run a Jewell Two Stage in my Colt HBAR when I shot the Knob Creek Assault rifle match every 6 months. Trigger was awesome. It was Drop-In; first stage and second stage pull-weight; sear engagement and over-travel were all easily adjustable if I remember correctly. Regrettably, I sold the rifle a couple of years back; Wish I kept the trigger because now I have a RRA Coyote Carbine. It has an RRA national match two stage; but the Jewell is better. But that Wilson Combat mentioned above sounds interesting.

I like the Timney 3# trigger that I've got on my Bull Barrel AR-15, it is very light and breaks nice and crisp. I most allways shoot from a rest so I don't want to know when the rifle is going to go off once I do my thing. Never had a slam fire with close to a 1000 rounds.

I have a JP trigger in my LR 308 & a RR trigger in my 5.56 rifle. They are both clean and crisp with little or no overtravel. Both are good triggers.
That said, my friend that shoots hi power with a modified AR has a Gieselle trigger. That Gieselle is a whole lot mo-bettah than either of my rifles triggers and is IMHO, the best centerfire rifle trigger I have ever used.

Roger

Have a Timney, RockRiver 2 stage and a Chip McCormic. Out of all these the Timney 3# is the favorite.
