Red Dawn - good movie...Because we live here!!!

Ammo stash - similar to Preacherman's...maybe a few more full .50 cal cans here and there.

Hmm ... don't know what my supply is for everything offhand.

I know I've got an ammo can packed with loose .22LR - that's quite a few K right there.

I know I loaded up another 300 or 400 rounds of .45 a week ago which should bring me up to 800 or 900 total.

A few hundred .38 and .357

About 500 rounds of 5,56mm in magazines, plus a little bit on strippers (I don't often reload AR magazines at the range, can you tell?)

Maybe 500 rounds of 7,62x39, 200 of 7,62x54 and probably 800 8mm.

Lessee ... maybe 200 12 gauge slugs left ...

About 150 handloaded .308s.

Maybe some more stuff. Can't recall offhand.

As for what I have with me ... well ... t'ain't none of your business. I think "more than the Red Dawn kids had to start out with, but less than they ended up with" should suffice.

a few thousand .22's, mostly for barter

a few hundred rounds of centerfire pistol ammo, but you'd better not need even a dozen such, when everyone is carrying an autorifle of some sort, don't you think? A few hundred rounds of centerfire rifle ammo, stashed here and there. If you are being at all successfull, there will be plenty of guns and ammo to pick up from the dead, barter with, etc, and half of them will be .22lr, after a short time. A great many of them will be suppressed, too. Many, many thousands of "kits" for making "cans" sold in the early 1980's, and many hundreds of thousands of "how to" books and videos, on can-making, have been sold, too. It will very quickly become obvious what an advantage a suppressed .22 auto is, if shtf, and everyone will want at least one. It may be "just" a pistol, to allow quiet foraging, sparing him the waste of 308 ammo on small critters, but it will be very desirable.

OK, more seriously....

Red Dawn ... given that it was made when the Soviets were powerful and a threat, I liked it.

After getting out of town, I'd want a .308 scoped bolt rifle w/moa accuracy. If I could get this in stainless and synthetic, and under 7 lbs, I'd be content. Good hunting or match ammunition would be essential to make this practical.

Second, I'd want a concealable semi-automatic pistol, preferably in .45 or 9mm. You have to be able to walk around without a rifle over your shoulder.

Third, I'd want a .308 FAL and an AKM in 7.62x39. If it gets rough and intimate, you want to have reliability and be able to stop a truck...
