just put up pics here:

Initial impressions is that it is well fit, with no vertical movement of the slide.

bushing fit is tight. and lock-up is good.

i did notice that the hammer is fairly tight in the slide.

the hammer hooks were a little over .020" (didn't have my feeler gauge) and one side was a little longer, but no worse than i've seen in the mil-spec or Citadel.

machining was ok, though all the marks may bother people. the dust cover is slightly off, but you can't really tell with the naked eye (all pics were with a macro lens).

not sure why the ejector was recessed, but it was pinned unlike the SA's

the extractor was flush and tight, as well as the firing pin stop

Trigger is decent, much better out of the box than a friends mil-spec. The mil-spec had more creep and was a heavier.

the sear spring was similar to the Colt sear spring.

the trigger itself had vertical play. i dropped in one of my flat triggers and while it had no play, there was a decent gap at the top of the trigger to the frame.

the front sight is dovetailed, but i'm used to seeing the roll pin at the front of the sight and not at the rear near the dot.

if all the samples are close to the one i have, i would say that it would be a better buy than the mil-spec, though Springfield has great customer service. also like the finish, don't care for parkerized and didn't want a SS finish on this type of 1911.

Looks like cast frame, cast hammer, cast grip safety, MIM sear, MIM disconnector, rough feedramp. Multiple toolmarks.
Answers some questions.
Thanks.

someone on another forum asked me to measure the barrel.

the barrel at the muzzle was .579" and the rest of the barrel is .575"
the ID of the barrel bushing is .579"

Thanks for the effort to capture all the detail. Lots to consider.

I think I like what I see for the most part. I just wish we had some info on the country of origin. And that they'd revisit the garish R1 rollmark on the right side. That one cosmetic issue is still keeping me from buying one, for some odd reason. But I appreciate the classic approach they took.

Re: Quacks crack inspection...

Have you shot it? What are your credentials? Maybe Remington should hire you and beef up there quality control. Does it work with the stock trigger or have you eliminated any possibility of it working by installling your own? How can you tear this apart without trying it? I cant believe all the people so critical about a new pistol. You better go buy a Les Bear and go to factory and put it together for them. Arrogance.

Someone is having a bad day.

Shooting it factory stock on Saturday.
I detail strip all my new guns prior to shooting to give them a thorough cleaning.

If you think I was saying bad things about it, you should see what others are saying about it.

Black,
Don't know what your beef is, but Quack did all of us who were wondering about that pistol a great service in posting those photos. They're clear, sharp, and show close-up details very well.
I took nothing he said anywhere as being critical, just pointing out what's there, as did some of the rest of us.
Sounds to me like his observations are perfectly valid.
Denis

if you think what i was saying was critical, here's what a well known 1911 gunsmith had to say when he looked at the pics.

Man......it looks rough to me.
Thanks for the great pics Quack.
The double step cut ejector and the hammer hooks are awful.
As is the exterior finish of the exposed chamber portion of the barrel.
Shows no attention to detail.

Blackwalnut obviously has an issue other than your review Quack. You did just fine. The only thing I would lile to see is some pics of the internals. Maybe the barrel, the machining of the slide and frame, etc....

It is a pretty 1911. I have never gotten along with 1911s but that one tempts me to try again.

i took some of the internal work, but pics didn't come out as well.
I'll re-take them after i take it to the range.
