remington rand 1911 rear sight

I have an rem rand 1911 but it shoots high and to the right is there any way to adjust the sight at least for the windage. If not is it much of a problem to put adj sights on. Thanks for any reply

To adjust the windage you must move the rear sight in the direction you want your shots to move. I use a brass pin punch and hammer. My Springfiedl had a witness mark on the sight and the slide. If this is present on your 1911,it will give you a reference point to see how far you have move the sight. Move it a little and shot the pistol to determine how close you are.You might consider trying a lighter bullet weight to see if that would correct your elevation problem.

Drift it for windage. The USGI sights were typically set for elevation zero at 50 yards...nominally...which would put them at 2-3 inches high at 25. If the gun has a different barrel than the original...which it likely has...and there's a little downward play at the rear with the slide in battery, that would cause it to hit a little higher or cause some vertical stringing. Shoot the pistol from a rest at 25 yards with standard pressure 230-grain ammo. PMC ball is a good one to use for a control lot. Load 6 rounds in the mag and throw away the first round to eliminate the flyer. Shoot a few 5-shot groups and figure the geographic center of the groups. Ignore the group size and measure that center from point of aim to find the elevation POI above POA. 2-3 inches is normal.

I wouldn't install an adjustable sight on it that requires alteration of the slide...That Rand is a collectible piece, and if it's original or correct, it's a VERY collectible piece.

If its consistantly high and right I would leave the sights alone. If you know where it hits at 25 meters or whatever you can compensate for it and be just as accurate as if you installed adjustable sights (which are less durable) and ruined the value and appearance of such a fine peice of american steel.

Does it group high and right? I have an RR and it shot high, but in a large group. I changed the barrel bushing and link to get it smaller and lower.
