Well your world is definitely different than mine. I am the more gun savvy individual in my circle of friends, and a quite a few guns get brought over for me to look at. Usually I test shoot them, so my personal experience is with guns that I don't own as well as the ones I do. My experience is more in depth with mine than the others but I do get enough exposure to know whether I would own them or not....

First hand experience or not, I am still waiting on someone to post something good about it, even if it is just hearsay. But that hasn't happened yet. That should tell you as much as all the negative comments....or maybe not.

I don't know how it is in your world but here in mine we don't pass around our firearms.
Interesting. I've handled and shot FAR more guns than I own, but throughout my life I've usually been heavily involved in local shooting groups, circles, associations, clubs, teams, etc. which shot a lot and spent a lot of time sharing, discussing, evaluating, building, repairing, tweaking, and competing with as wide a variety of guns as possible. So it would feel odd for me to base my trust in a fellow "gunny's" opinion of a firearm on whether he actually owned one or not.

At any rate, Jimmy and all, I think the point is completely understood now: Hearsay is not terribly valuable. First-hand info may come in different ways, all of it useful.

Let's move on.

I think anyone having a good experience with one would be scared to post after all this negativity.
That would be a terrible misunderstanding of the purpose of discussion. Why would anyone be "scared" to say that they had an actual physical observation, positive or negative? That's first-hand experience -- i.e., what you've demanded.

I love my 770. The bolt feels lose but so what- so do all low end bolt guns. I care about accuracy and it out shoots a whole lot of 700s. 1in. or under at 100 yrds. I never expected it when i bought it. In my new outdoor life mag. with a GOOD shooter (.308 m700 vtr using match amo averaged 1.25 in.)(rifle 872$)-(scope 950$) Normally you get what you pay for.???hmm. i think im going to glass bed it today for fun see what i get.

Expensive tomato stake.
^That.

I agree with the recommendation of the Marlin XL/XS-7...outstanding bolt gun for the money.

Just curious but how many who posted negative opinions about the Remington 770 actually own/have owned one?
I nearly did years back, thank goodness I shot one first (and several since that time). I refuse to buy something just to prove how bad it is.

:)
