Revolver or Auto, one pick only.

if just semiauto pistols, not revolvers:

s&w shield ez 9mm. it is truly easy. 9mm over the 380acp version for the former’s cheaper ammo but only slightly more recoil.

keltec p32. best deep ccw ever, imho.

ruger sr22. who cannot need a reliable 22lr plinker? handy enough to a decent ccw for persons with weaker hands, aversion to recoil.

I see most people included 3 wheel guns, and 3 semi guns. I only have two that I would buy again if needed. The Sig p226 9mm and the browning super 9mm. Darn fine guns. I carry the Sig., Big, heavy and accurate.

If I had to pick one it would be semi auto. Just for ccw. I carry iwb with no cover garment 90% of the time so a flat sided gun rules all.

If I had to only have one handgun it would likely be a Glock 20 maybe even a 29 since it would need to fill all roles. Hunting, defense, ccw etc etc. ( I own a 29 but don't care for them. Too big for ccw. No reason to choose it over a 20 for hunting or even carry etc etc) but it may well be the most versatile gun. Plenty of power. Small-ish. Load with 40s for a smooth shooter or heavy rounds and it will handle that for years too.

If I get 3

Id pick a good 22. Maybe one of my Beretta target model or hammerli/sig. But a buckmark, woodsman or mk2/3 22/45, 922 or anything else in that arena would be ok.

Then a good 10mm Glock. 20 or maybe the 40 but like the shorter 20 for duty carry. Covers big game and home defense.

Then any of the popular but not tiny carry guns. I carry a Glock 27 but any 9mm/40 smallish double stacks. M&P, 365, 320, etc etc.

If I had to choose to go with a revolver trio I would be ok too.

a k frame 22 or maybe ruger 22. Single six or GP. No matter..its just for small game/varmint

A 4 inch N frame, Maybe 329 or a shorter barrel redhawk for defense and most hunting

And a 460 for hunting or distance. (Really just because the other two do most anything else)

Only 1 revolver? Id say a 686 plus. 3 inch maybe. Would cover anything. Heavy for ccw. Short for game... but perfectly adequate

For the "pics or it can't Happen" folks. And for fun.

Id choose the semi auto Trio first, but if you asked me on 10 days I might choose the wheel gun trio on 2 of them.

I did add an alternate small game gun for both categories. If ammo cost is not an issue in this proverbial....then I take the 5.7 over the 22/45 for small game.

And I threw in the single six as an alternate to the 610 simply because I'm actually no fan of Smith and couldn't stand the thought of all Smith, I generally prefer Ruger, contrary to my choices here. I could have used a 4 inch redhawk for the 44 but since it would be ccw I wouldn't want that weight. And Ruger don't (or at least didn't) make a 460. Could have used gp100 instead of the 610 but mine isn't here at the moment.

Of course the two oriented wrong are my "if only one gun" choices. Best at nothing and two of my last picks for guns. But a decent "do all" choice. Adequate for anything from ccw and competition to home defense to big (ish) game.

A 1911 would be a must have if you were going to stick me with a limit on how many I can own.

It’s probably the most versatile, from Crossmans .177 caliber pellet upper to Pachmayr’s 308 Winchester top end and lots and lots of stuff in between.

Here's the rules, they're really simple.
You can pick either the Revolver category or the Auto category. And you can pick three guns from that category. What would those three be?
I'm a revolver guy first and foremost. I like autos, but I am a wheel gunner at heart.
1. Ruger Redhawk In 5.5in barrel 44 mag
2. S&W 686 no dash 4in 357 mag
3. Ruger Single Six 5in 22lr
Hunting, defense and plinking I am covered. All 3 are proven winners and are rock solid performers.

While I'd miss sigs and 1911s and ppks...

SW 686 + (anywhere from 4-7 inch barrel)
SW 340pd
SW 63

I think I could well cover all handgunnery with this trio. The 686 as house gun, possible hunting as well. With hardcast 180 grain flat points, it wouldn't give up too much to other larger calibers for larger predator defense. 158 grain jsp seem to do okay for deer.

The 340 pd handles discrete carry and shares ammo. I could load wadcutters in 38 up to barn burners in 357.

The 63 would allow for cheap plinking, small game and pest control, kit gunning, training new shooters, and keeping the muscle memory and mechanics in good order during the cyclical ammo droughts.

As much as I love autos, the 1911 in particular, and only own autos currently, (1851&1860 replicas excepted, I'd go with revolvers. In order of bore size,

1. Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag., 7 1/2".
2. New issue Colt Python, 3".
3. S&W Model 17 (.22 Combat Masterpiece)

Revolvers:

S&W 637 .38spcl for woods/kit gun
Ruger Alaskan .44mag for self-defense/hunting
Ruger Single-Six .22LR/22WMR for plinking/hunting

Autos:

Beretta 92FS 9mm/22lr for self defense/hunting/plinking
Springfield MC Operator in .45ACP for self-defense/hunting
Sig P229 Legion in 9mm for good measure

Semiauto

My SA Mil Spec 1911 in 45
My Beretta 92 FS in 9mm
My Glock 19 in 9mm

If limited to three, I’d probably pick those

Revolvers.
1) LCR22lr or 43c as trainer or pocket carry on bad hand days and training on the cheap.
2) LCR22mag or 351c for pocket carry on bad hand days and rat-shot dispenser, most carried for edc.
3) LCR357/9mm or 340PD for EDC. Would only carry it with WCs or CD 110gr FXTs, but nice and light and able to swap out front sights. And for laser and dryfire practice.

Since my handgun use is primarily oriented around self defense I would pick semiautos.
Glock 10mm
Glock 19 9mm
Either Glock 22lr or Ruger Mark V

Glock 34.5 - carry it or 2nd on list
Glock 22.5 - my other primary carry (I also have a 35.4 that has a 357 Sig barrel, but sticking with three)
Kahr PM9 - pocket gun to go along with the Glock on belt. (I like the Sig 365 better but it is not compatible with all pockets whereas the PM9 is)

I was thinking.
The last time I bought a revolver was about 22 years ago.
Last time I carried a revolver was about 18 years ago.
Last time I shot a revolver maybe 5 years ago.

My 1st centerfire handgun was a 357 Mag revolver in 1987 and 1st gun I bought my wife was a 38 snub, we still have both. Revolvers just aint my thing.

Revolvers:

S&W Models 27-2, 28-2, 66-1 and pre-model 10 all in 357,

Ruger Models Security Six and Redhawk both in 357,

Taurus Model 970 in 22 LR.

Revolvers?

If I had to limit myself down to 3 of what I currently own:

S&W Model 17 22LR for plinking.

Ruger Redhawk 45 Colt / 45 ACP for lions, tigers, and bears OH MY!
index.php

Ruger Security Six snubby for EDC.

Coin toss everywhere
Revolver
LCR 38
GP100 Match Champ 10mm
Smith K22
Autos
LCP Max
SR1911 10MM
Colt Combat Elite 45 W/ advantage 1911-22T conversion

I love autos and revolvers but if I had to pick just one, it would probably be auto's.

My three:
Compact service pistol in either aluminum alloy or polymer. Good for range use and most carry. For years my choice here would be a CZ PCR but you can't go wrong with a Glock 19 either.

A small CCW for when you need something more easily concealed. My current choice, my SIG P365

For woods carry to substitute for my .357mags and .45LC, sounds like a good excuse for a 10mm. Not sure what specific gun I'd pick. Too many new choices out there in the last few years since I last looked into a 10mm.
